MY rebuilt 4 speed saginaw ****** is in and I'm bummed out that it is so noisly. Maybe it's as it should be but I'm not sure. Second gear is the loudest when I left off the gas it is awful. Any thoughts?
    Thx

saginaw out of a '75 vega. Rebuild kit, bearings, sync rings washers etc. All looked good in side. Maybe some STP?

Without seeing the internals I'd only be guessing as to why it is noisy. I have had a couple of these ******s and they were not at all noisy.

Ya running a shifter boot of some kind? Amazing how much quieter carpet and a boot makes a trans.

I have ran a few different saginaws in different cars/trucks over the years. None of them that were put together right were noisy. You might want to define "Noisy". If it's whining pretty bad when you left off the gas, deceleration in gear, it probably needs to come back apart and be looked at. If it is clicking or knocking, it deffinately isn't right, and won't last long in my experience. Either way it shouldn't make a lot of noise. If you are not comfortable with how it goes together, it never hurts to take it to someone that knows manual trans/gears. Somethings are well worth the money. I hope it works out for you!!

Running a 4 speed Saginaw in my Biscayne...no noise at all.
    What fluid are you using...
I think 75w90 gear oil is what is supposed to be in there.
    Good luck,
    Cheers........

  10. Take it apart, most likely 37(2) and or 38 (2) were left out. I have also seen were the rollers #6 were the wrong size.

Manual transmission fluid would be a better choice. GL rated gear oils have extreme pressure additives intended for use with hypoid gears that can attack/corrode the br*** synchronizer rings.
