My son is playing with ideas how to hop up a 250 then possibly a 292 for an OT car with a low hoodline. I have a pair of Stromberg/Zenith 175 side draft carbs off a late 60s volvo. Wondering...anyone ever stuck three of these things on a straight six?
Is there any benefit to running these over earlier SU's? I have a pair of these as well as some HS2's /HS4's to run on my '28 Chevy engine.
I have three 175 CDs that I plan on putting on my Chevy 250. Advance Auto has carb kits for about $25 each. Won't be getting around to it for a while though. I currently have a Offy 4bbl intake and Edelbrock 500 CFM carb. The car is newly built...well, it WILL be newly built one day, and I want to drive it to work all the bugs out before I start dinking with carbs and dealing with the drive-ability and tuning issues that will no doubt come up with triple carbs. I'm primarily interested in them for the 'LOOK'. They'll just look better on my roadster.
GM's Holden in Oz used triple CD strombergs on the 1971/72 Holden Torana XU1, this was on the 186 & 202 cube six, basically a smaller version on the 250 chev.....there should be plenty of info on the net..........andyd
^^^ +1 - memories of a BMW 328 spring to mind. SU's are generally a preferred choice over Stromberg CDs....
We have the Strombergs...and they're bigger. But I'll have to see if my brother still has the SUs. Thanks. Something like this?
Thanks. Here is a link to the thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291413 The whole build is also documented on AllMetalShaping.com http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=145&highlight=Deco I'm trying to make it 'period correct' which is why it's an inline 6...(about 275 HP). The 3 carbs will look better than the Edelbrock.
I've got a sequentially numbered set of Dellorto DLHB 35 side drafts I'm trying to get rid of.....if you're interested.
Here's what I built for my 292 , I mateded a Clifford and 2 datsun 240z manfolds together and a lot of other creative re engineering . I've haven't got it running yet but I'll let u guys know how it turns out when when I do .
Yes datsun made there own copys of the European verson , the early verson are good carbs , the later ones are junk .
I'm using two HS6 SUs on my champ car with a crossflow-headed 300 Ford six. I made the intake manifold.
I dig thinking out of the box ! I've been working with both the ZS and SU carbs for many years . IMHO , I would rather use a set of 1.75 SU carbs over the Zenith Stromberg carbs any day - it's a much better carb . Since you've already got the ZS carbs ... run 'em & try it out .
