I have a 1938 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup with an underseat/in cab fuel tank. The existing tank is rotted beyond reasonable repair, so I have purchased a reproduction underseat tank from Chevies of the '40's...

On the original tank, the filler neck was two piece... a fuel filler that sticks out of the side of the cab, a rubber hose 'joint' and then a short section of metal tubing sticking out of the tank.

The reproduction tank has a 'one piece' arrangement going into the tank.

My question: which is correct as the original configuration for a 1938 Chevrolet pickup? I have spent multiple evenings trying to find an illustration or photo of how the filler neck was configured out of the factory with no luck.

Any help or insights will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. my '39 gmc is one piece, i believe '38 is also.
