Well, I ordered some whitewall paint (I'll post pics and opinions on how it lasts later) to replace my portowalls, and I figure that as long as I've got the wheels off the car, I might touch up the paint while I'm at it. As they sit now, they're matte black. Not sure if I wanna go gloss black (to match my car) or white, or red.

If you're going to say "please don't paint them red", please keep that to yourself. Sure, it CAN be played out, but a lot of guys have red rims for a reason: it looks good. That's why I might go that route, not because of some rat rodder thing. MOONGLOW (one and two!) had red rims! That being said, I'm open to other suggestions for color.

I'd eventually like to get full wheel covers soon, but until then I'll make due with beauty rings and baby moons. I'll post some pictures for reference. Yes, I know my spots are rusty. I've since tried to clean them LOL.

Silver was goin' through my mind for a second, but I think with lancers or other chrome caps they'd look a little silly.

I think the baby blue looks nice. I might use it on my black coupe.

red, only if metal flake. no to silver. black OK, black metal flake better. full hub caps even better-nice ride. so, what brand of tire paint did you get? did search here on painting tires?

  10. I'm gonna offer a different idea. Keep the rims gloss black and go with spider caps and trim rings. Todd

Ordered Ace's off the 'bay cuz it was the cheapest spray. Don't want to brush. They're $35 tires so I won't be too heartbroken. My ports last one trip on the highway, then RIP! Only one tire guy I've met old enough to remember 'em who'll mount 'em for me and I hate having to go to ONE place over and over. Plus the tore up ports wear grooves in the tires.

I'd do spiders if they didn't cost an arm and a leg. Wheel covers I can pick up at a swapmeet. Hell, I got a set of '54 Bel Air caps for $40 (I think) and a set of the checkered Olds caps without the crab centers.

I would go with red. That's what I did. People used to paint there wheels red back in the day because everyone wanted Merc rims and Merc rims came from the factory red. That's what I have been told.

If you don't have full caps, paint the entire wheel. Painting just the rims will look silly.

I would paint them to look like American 5-spokes, then lose the whitewalls

I was saying rim to mean the wheel. I was trying to avoid confusion because I was talking about taking the wheels off AND taking the tires off. So in this instance I meant my wheel rims, not the rims of my wheels.

Yeah and while I'm at it I'll paint my car to look like a Honda.
