Hi All, I want to add whitewalls or redlines to my existing BFGs. I've heard of shops cutting or painting tires. I know I can buy new tires, but mine are nearly new. Does anyone know of a shop in SoCal that can do this? Thanks.
There is always port-a-walls. I know some guys say the **** but others claim if they are installed correctly they work great. I think you can find them on Evil-bay for $70.
I tried the Krylon Fusion deal and they kept cracking/yellowing. In the end it was much easier to simply sell the ones I had and buy legit whitewalls.
Portawalls work great. I have used them on both bias and radial tires. A bit more hairy mounting them on the radials, but if you are patient, and keep trying, you will get them right. Good luck, Cheers...................
Here's some I sanded. They were 1" wide whitewalls. You need white lettered or whitewall tires already to use the sand/grind method. On modern tires the white doesn't go all the way out to the rim. BEFORE-junkyard tires. AFTER Do a search, plenty of threads on the HAMB of different ways to add them.
I say sand. Gotta have the thin white or white lettering though. Tons of threads on this. Do a search.
I've used portawalls many, many times mainly due to the price of WW's over here and i'm broke most of the time. Fitted on both on radials and plys though it does say they shouldn't be used on radials. If fitted great i've had no issues and look reasonable. Some tyres with raised lettering cause the trim to look a little rippled and need to be hit with a sander. Plus new tyres kick out alot of oils and bleed into the trim causing it to go brown. Although i have portawalls i am saving for some cokers or similar as i want the real deal but they will do for now. From what i know i think you need at least 2-3k on the tyres to lose the oils, getting a WW cut into a new tyre just gives you the same issue as fitting portawalls and they go brown easily. All the best Dan
Thanks for your replies!! What about redlines? Is there shop in Southern California that can do this?
