Installing an amp in my Chevy like Ryan did in his post "hidden tunes via an iPod" and am wondering how I should setup the power to the amp. Should I hide an on/off switch or put one in the dash in plain view with a teardrop knob? Should I figure out some way to rig a push/pull on off switch in the radio dial? I'd like the radio dial to remain functional and I'm installing the volume control that Ryan used in the volume/power knob. I'm basically doing the amp in the radio thing. What creative things have you guys done? Just looking for ideas. Plus, anyone have luck with those $20 mini amps on eBay? Wouldn't mind one if it works. Thanks!
Me and my buddy did this in his tbird, we used an existing switch on the console, in front of the ashtray (kind of hard to spot in the pic). I'm not sure if that was the factory map light switch or not, but there was a hole there and we needed to fill it with something. I prefer what alot of guys are doing, and using the factory radio knobs or other factory dash knobs...but hey this worked.
I used my AC dash control on my 64 Bonneville... Checkout the link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQx7AUUZwOY
Subscribed and collecting parts. Found a 100w Jensen on the local CL for $10 so its worth a shot. Scavenged speakers from my old DD before it went down. Bought some wire so the project is on the short list with wiring the cab. My goal is to have one knob on the dash board... turn it off/turn it up. Thats the part I don't have a handle on yet.
I'd rather not run the amp every time I start the car. They get hot, drains juice and all that. My old CD player would always make noise whenever you reconnected the battery, so I'm just paranoid about wasting power.
