Huge apologies for the OT car, but circa 1995 Jaguar FLamenco red is just gorgeous, friend of mine painted his squarebird this color and it looked amazing.

It's got a goldish pearl effect to it too if that makes any sense...

A 'red thread' is always useful - two year old or not. As a former colour consultant in the digital publishing arena, it's amazing what some people's concept of 'cherry red' is though....

That Anzahl red mentioned above is probably different on both cars due to base color?
Also, I wonder how you'd really decide on a color over a computer. I bet none of our screens reproduce colors exactly the same.

Yes, guys are notoriously bad with color. The Maroons some posted were not even close to 'cherry red'.

Mine is embarrasing to say Toyota pearl metallic and is somewhat softer looking than candy. I chose the colour by looking around in sunny day traffic. I wanted it to be metallic not too dark or light, not too cold shade, not too orange or too brownish. This colour is clearly red any time of the day being it sunny or cloudy.

    Hello,

Back in the 50s when the color Tahitian Red or Candy Apple Red came out in the hot rod & custom magazines and at the dragstrips, it was probably one of the most popular colors for street hot rods or show customs or both. You could not go anywhere without seeing one color or the other. The custom, chopped, 56 Ford Truck in our own neighborhood was painted what I thought was Tahitian Red, but it could have been Candy Apple Red to others or in different daylight scenes.

Our knowledge of colors was eating those real candy apples on a stick that we got at the Long Beach Pike shops. Dipped in a candy apple, color coating on a sweet/somewhat sour, apple variety, made the bite sensational. The color was spot on for the candy colors on the hot rods and custom cars.

Now these days, custom painters can mix a variety of tints to get the exact color that is chosen. Current high quality, digital photos and certainly 59 year old films still cannot portray the exact color that any one wishes, but they are close. Even using those powerful daylight, shooting shop lights for painters, would be hard to get the color right.

Cherry picking in Beaumont, CA was a family tradition when we were kids. Sitting in the trees picking and eating as many cherries was the thing to do for us. We were quiet for hours. The colors of the real cherries varied. The darker ones seemed to taste better, but the actual color looked better in the lighter shades of cherry red.

The Buick Skylark color would be considered Cherry Red, with the color being one of the middle cherry colors. (Not too dark and not too light.) But, in some angles of the sun, the color would be Tahitian Red from back in the 50s-60s paint jobs. Here is one last hammer to throw into the pile: it could even be considered a candy apple red in color.

Digital cameras show almost true colors, but one would have to be up close and personal to see the true colors in the daylight. In the bright 1 p.m. sun, both of my wife and myself thought the Skylark was a Tahitian Red or a Black Cherry drink color.

P.S. The 1 p.m. photo was in the middle of an 85 degree daylight and since it has been 90s all this week, time for an ice cold, Black Cherry Soda Pop on ice.

So 9 years ago (!) the O/P asked for a pearl or metallic "cherry" red. Define cherry? Sour cherry or black sweet cherry? Gotta admit, it's a challenge. PPG had a line of "Mica Metallic" colors. It was in the color book not related to any specific brand and it was a bright cherry red color with a real sparkle to it. I have no idea where that old book is these days but I recall it as a really special variant.

Past that, HOK is percieved as big $$$$ paint. It isn't when compared to the 1st line products of the majors, in fact it's downright cheap for what you get. But you don't want a true candy for a myriad of reasons (ability being at the top). Their KBC line, Kandy Basecoat, has some really rightious colors that can be played with over different bases. That said, the most ultimate and perfect true candy red I've ever seen, and I've seen A LOT, was this prototype/concept Vette from the GM styling center, shown at Amelia Island in 2012. Not a blemish, no mottling, no variance in the true color ANYWHERE. Bright sun, slight overcast, even through 2 different polarized sungl***es, I'd defy anyone to find a color flaw. Never before or since, and that finisher is/was THE MAN.

And no, I don't know color name so I'll call it "****in Eh Kandy Red"
