  1. what does pounding metal have to with exhaust ? No, I'm not looking for a "stroke " for being aloud pipe guy. The exhaust was all done a local shop here.. Yes I try to be as quiet when leaving and coming. When it comes to the neighbor, she didn't even introduce her self other than rant at me and leave. I have heard plenty of Harley's that are way louder than my car. I was just wondering about what other folks may have done in the past or may had to do. my 55 F100 and 56 Nomad both have 40 series Flowmasters on them and no problems. I may have to order some Porter's glass packs..

lmao, really? we have to explain it to you... I have a feeling those places in the country under drought conditions could explain it real easy...

Instead of being pissed off that your car is so loud they'd probably overlook a little noise coming from the garage. All you straight pipe guys kill me, and the Harley's too. Loud and obnoxious and always needing for everyone to know how loud you are. A little respect for your neighbors goes a long way, especially considering it's most likely louder outside the car.

Well, the way I see it is you can try to get along with your neighbor and the local constabulary or you can say screw 'em. Which one is less stressful? Your pick.

Nope, not kidding! In fact, if anyone is running supertrapps or kerkers(i dont even know if they still make em!) the law is stamped right on the side or the cap...
Just imagine throwing a 2" round cigarette but off into the mulch everytime your car fires...

Sorry if Im coming off as a tree hugger.

I'm sure that argument would fly well with the police officer tellin' you you're too loud ... or maybe the judge will see it your way.

jcwhitney use to sell a exhaust cut out,it by passed the muffler for highway use..so you can have a quiet exhaust for your crybaby neighbor that thinks the world only belongs to them and you can run it with straight pipes on the highway so you can enjoy life too

Yep. Losing over 2.64 million acres of land (as of early summer) to wildfires around here is no bueno. It's only rained here a handful of times and we're nowhere near what we usually get in rainfall a year which is a mere 9 inches.

As for the exhaust.. Glasspacks will help you out in the long run. I only have a single exhaust system in my '68 C10 with one glasspack and it's still louder than most diesels around here. Johnny Law doesn't bother me much though. Get some 'packs and see if that works.

The way I see it.. Is having your car obnoxiously loud worth having the people that live next to you hate you? My neighbors love us and have helped prevent several crimes around here. Just a thought.

  15. I most likely will order some Porter's for the car , just to keep the peace. This was the first time ever getting a warning.. When I'm wrong I'm wrong, and will be first to say so. Thanks , cheers Rob

Rob,throw some mufflers on it and be done with it.Neighbors can be real assholes especially if they have friends downtown. They will make your life miserable with inspectors, complaints etc. My nearest neighbor is 4 miles away so lucky I guess.Guys that have it bad are the ones living in H.O.A. s. areas. Shit the cops in Fla don"t know what a warning ticket is.Blue lights = empty wallet.

Have the decibels checked. If it's louder than the law allows, THEN add mufflers. If not, keep the paperwork for such occasions. Each persons hearing is different.

With 2 separate complaints in one day I would say your car is probably too loud. I would go with the porters you mentioned to mellow it out a bit.

  21. Are you kidding me . A quiet "go fast car" HA.
    Mufflers!............................"we need no stinkeyn mufflers"!

Did you ever look into your state and local code to see what's actually required on your ride? Most states require a muffler regardless of how loud it is, which is kind of stupid, others specify an actual decibel limit. Probably best to find out the actual law before you do anything.

Next time you are drowning I'll throw you an air horn.

  25. How often do you drive this car that people are complaining? You should take a look at your neighbors property and make sure it's up to snuff. You know like garbage cans missing the lids or like a fence that is too high. When the state comes knocking on their door they won't be too happy. If you were some gang-banging drug dealer they wouldn't even look in your direction. But you are probably a nice guy and that's why this chickenhead thinks she can tell you what to do. Loud pipes save lives!

Get some mufflers and go stealth for a while and she'll forget your there. Let her think she won but put some cutouts for your pleasure. Not everyone is a hotrod enthusiast.

I'm trying to save my ears and can't handle open headers anymore for daily driving.

    uhhh... cough <bullshit> cough...

Basic physics are against loud pipes making much difference. By the time they hear you, your already past them. Pretty basic stuff really.

You can kiss lowend torque and mileage goodbye on a street driven hotrod with no mufflers...
I've already proven that to myself twice already...

I would rather pay for mufflers than a 300.00 ticket and mufflers.

had a neighbor send her son over to talk to me about my loud sportbike I had back when I was young and handsome. this was on a narrow street with small front yards, the peoples front window was no more than 15 feet from the street.

it never occured to me that I was annoying the neighbors. from then on I made an effort to be quiet until I got out of the neighborhood. Just seemed like the neighborly thing to do.

back in the 80's cops had a decimal meter and a Tach. 90 DB @ 2000 RPM was the limit... maybe 2500 RPM ... I forget now. got pulled over in my HOT ROD Datsun truck and just barely made the cut. I was over the limit, but my tach in the truck didn't match his tach, they were both made by Sun. going by my tach I was just under, so he let me slide.

that little truck was loud, and I loved to tach it up and make a racket.
