have a question about my new fuel pump. i have a 54 chevy bel air, i just replaced gas tank and fuel pump due to rust issues. i got a new tank from ecklers, new sending unit from ecklers as well(holes in sending unit were off a little and didn't match up, but no big deal, easy fix). anyway, the car runs great, no issues, doesn't stall, fuel is being pumped to carb, but when i look down at the new pump, i see fuel sweating out of the black gasket at the top? is this normal? i've checked my lines and they seem to be dry, plus the fuel would have to go up to get on that part of the pump. the two screws on the top can't be tightened any more. is this normal? will it seal better as it wears in, or do i have a defective part? thanks
It shouldn't be leaking anywhere. Suggest you call Eckler's and discuss it (waranty) with them BEFORE you take it apart.
Maybe it's just the gasket not seating properly. If you don't have that much money in it, take it apart and put some gasket goop around the edges and see what happens.... my 2 cents.....
yhea, i was thinking about that. i took my old pump apart just to see what was under there. i don't think ecklers will take it back, but i guess i could ask before i take it apart.
