So I just got back from 29 Palms CA two days ago from some pre deployment training that lasted a little over a month. For you guys that dont know, 29 Palms is in the middle of no where in the desert. So after spending one day with the wife and the dog, I was wide awake at 4am this morning and headed straight to the garage to tinker on my motorcycle. I had a few little things to do to it so that I can ride it for the next month before I deploy. My wife asked me who in there right mind would get out of bed at 4 am and go to the garage? I just said me.

I think before I have to head out to work im going to finish putting a radio in my F100. Just figured Id post this up because looking at it, I think its pretty funny.

I may not go to the garage every time I get up at 4 am, which is the time my biological clocks says it's time to wake up every day. But I have done it on an oc***ion, mostly I'm on my laptop on the living room sofa having my *wakeup* coffee. Feels normal to me. Besides *NORMAL* is just a setting on a washing machine!

(hand raised in air) - I'm "normal" - it is now 0455 on Monday, I have had my first cuppa....perused the news and read a few compelling articles to get 'up to speed', out to the garage, turn on A/C and some lights, pour another joe....log onto the HAMB and find out that I'm not alone at this hour.

Many thanks to the OP for his service.

The only problem with 4 am is when you run out of parts and no one's open. That's when it's time for another cup o' joe to wait out the parts guys.

  10. Its either rise early or say up all night to wrench. Its been like this for 40+ years not counting my very youngest years with the Ol' Man. I always thought that was how it is done.

Now on side note I have two things in mind, enjoy the hell out of the next month and be sure to come back to wrench another day.

    Never give an inch.

  18. If you check in on this thread it will come back up and we'll know where to look for you.

If things get ugly do the right thing, don't give us details just that you made it another day.

I used to have a real good friend that was a Gunny. Almost everyday he would end the day by saying, "It was a good day, no one died." My hope for you is that you can take his lead and say that every day.

Stay low and keep you head on a swivel.

Normal is over rated except when it comes to moral character. When I worked night shift my Normal work or awake time was over night.Had to keep garage door shut so I didnt piss off the neighbors. Some of my best idiers are either before i fall asleep or when I first wake up.I love getting up early and starting on something when everything is quiet.

Spent 4 years as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan, in and out through Kandahar. Worst thing there is the traffic, watch out for the Hodgie buses. When I last came through back in February this year, there seemed to quite a lot more insurgent activity than previously.

Can't be worse then internet on a ship. My last deployment ****ed on the 24th MEU. Longest ship at sea since WWII without hitting a port. Took half an hour to check ur email at times.

I do the same, and here in Texas in the sumnmer it's the coolest at that time although still in 80's.

A couple of years ago I put a Loft storage in my shop. The wife came out and said I see you making a loft up there you should just move out here because you love this place more than me. I comforted her by telling her she was allowed to move into the loft with me or come out and hold the torch while we do some hammer welding when it was 106 degrees outside. She has givin up complaing about it, I invite hewr to come out and help me everytime I go out. She has yet to do that.
