  1. That's right...like it or not these guys create alot of jobs and help to bolster local economies with tourism dollars...that being said I haven't been to a Good Guys event in a few years and with what little spare time I seem to have these days I go to events that are more to my tastes

The weather reports had it raining on saturday, which it did in the afternoon and sunday looked like **** and it rained. I went all 3 days and had a good time and it sure looked like more than 500 cars on friday and saturday. The Morris and Lemont cruise nites both draw alot of cars but they are nowhere near all pre '48 cars.

About all you got out of your "membership" was the magazine (and some trinkets and decals, which of course are adverti*****t for Goodguys that you can put on your car) which is full of paid ads.

What exactly is greedy about running a business? That's just enterprise, not greed...

First paragraph says alot, all those trinkets and decals are a business expense (tax deductible) and adverti*****t. In my eyes a discount for membership would be smart business and would remove any resemblance of greed.

Second paragraph, When the dollar take precedence over customer service and customer loyalty. If a business can't survive without good customer service than get out of business you become a sore eye on the good

$45 to go see a show and access to vendors? That might explain part of the issue.

IMO, there are better "car shows" here (on this site) every moment of every day, and probably better vendors here too, offering a discount to boot!

OK, I just convinced myself to spend the $50 to become an Alliance member here! :)

You right Ryan - it's a business - and they do it well - I always hope they will make a profit $$$$$
so they will keep on doing the shows

The registration numbers were into the 900s on Saturday, but it was definitely the worst turnout yet. The swap meet is usually weak, but this year it really wasn't any bigger than our own Garage Days Swap Meet at the shop (which is $5 for a spot vs $65).

Our cruise from Registration to our shop on Thursday night was fun, and we had a pretty good turnout too. But the show itself was noticeably vacant.

Not sure what it is about the Chicago show that doesn't draw the way others do. The Indy show always seems so much better. Is it the location? It's a good facility. I'm sure the date change this year had a huge impact. I'll be curious to see how the Indy show is attended being the same weekend as Kalamazoo.

The Chicago show's days are definitely numbered. Hopefully they will stick it out one more year before they decide to potentially pull the plug.

As for the $45, that gets you in all 3 days. Whether your not you choose to go all three days is up to you.

I've been a member of GG for many years. Even if they do kill the Chicago show, I will remain a member simply for the Gazette. It's outstanding and the last 5 years has been better than ever.

Gotta ask this, then I'll move on......what is the "OT" designation? I know it's outside the HAMB parameters (and applies to cars outside my focus anyway) but I can't finger it out! Been trying to for a month now.

Good point, and with membership knocking on 160,000 I'd say its successful. You can't stay in business if you ain't making money.

That's the biggest event maker or killer right there. The venue and the local around it. Not only does the event have to be held in a facility that we can enjoy but it should have motels, eating places and at least one good grocery store within a respectable distance. And you should feel safe walking out the gate to go to a cafe or store.

I'll agree though that events that have added later model vehicles to boost the attendance figures are a big turn off to me. We went to one a week or so ago that used to be one of the best real rod runs in the Pacific North West and now it is more like walking through the back lot of a buy here pay here used car lot on south first street.

Next time you're at a GG event, instead of asking why you can't get a discount, ask how much it costs to rent a speedway facility and buy insurance for three days. I have heard they pay about $30,000 PER DAY for one of the big speedway tracks!

And really, if you can't look at some of the amazingly well done "late models" presented at most every GG event, you're not a car guy, your a snob.

And frankly, the Gazette alone is worth my $45 a year!

Goodguys, NSRA, HAMB, Long Beach Show, they are all a business when they do an event they spend mega bucks to advertize the events for the duration of the show and if you've noticed most of the cars on Sunday leave early to drive back home, so in an effort to give spectators some thing to see the promoters are allowing other years to participate so that there are cars on the fair grounds when the Sunday people show up.
We have so many small local shows around here that use us as their fund raisers, they charge 25 to 40 dollars for a lawn chair, 4 hour event that ****s, so what wrong with paying to see the vendors and some old friends at the big events, it works for me...............

Let my Geed Guys membership expire when they gave up Drag Racing and became a strictly Lawn Chair event. Thought the uproar over the NSRA expanding to post 49 was interesting. Now Greed Guys allowing any year to enter on Sunday takes the cake. I'll bet those folks who paid a $22 admission fee at Joplin really enjoyed looking at 2011 Corvettes, Hondas, Kia's, Hyundias and Mitsubishis. Greed Guys jammed an umbrella up their ***es, opened it up and pulled it out with no vaseline. I wonder how Kirk is going to spin this latest Gary Meadors money grab. If you think the Joplin car total was low watch the rest of the Greed Guys events go down hill. NSRA car totals are way down as well.
The Lawn Chair event car totals are dropping like flies. Real Hot Rod events like the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion and other events with non stop nostalgia drag racing are where its at while their attendance skyrockets. When they run out of event t shirts that ought to tell you something.

i guess my gripe w/ goodguys is that nothing is given back ? maybe a coupon with 1/2 off {list?} ,you will never win an award at good guys if you dont have an item from every vendor they sell ad space from!!! plus the car "picks" seem to be mostly late model junk built by high dollar rod shops !!! these shows rrreally throw up in your face ,if you are not a high roller ! been to the "back to the 50s shows ,there drawings are awesome ,and lots of prizes ! and no late model junk / think about your shows next year guys !!!!!go to the ones that give back! sure the promoter has to make a buck BUT? i probably will be banned from good guys now /soo i had better end this now! my two cents "carryallman"

so these ASRA & VSRA and other pre 49 groups wont let my shoebox in but I could build a brand new gl*** car using entirely new modern parts and be welcomed with open arms seems a bit hypocritical to me?

I can't see what all the **** is about. It seems very simple to me. Do people REALLY go to an event without reading what type and years of cars will be allowed? ****, if you do, you need to break out the gl***es and check the print. It's probably spelled out nice and clear. Why would a person, who doesn't like post '64 cars, go to a show that could have them? Oh.. so you can ***** later? Get a grip, folks. As far as the comments after Ryan posted, I see a lot of lemmings who suddenly have an insight as to what the purpoose of a business is and that is a good thing.

Here in Houston, I go to one show a year (AutoRama) and that is mostly because of the memories. There are a lot of shows I could go to, but why go see the cars I can see for free any time? I'd rather go to a meet-up with friends, than a "show" anyway. I know what lawn chairs and ice coolers look like, so I p***.

Deep inside, most people into cars can find something to like in any or all years. If you can't, then go to events that specilize in what you like. And don't forget to read the flyer.

Lastly, do you REALLY need a show to validate that you're a hot rodder? Really?

**** I'd pay the entry fee just to run on the track Saturday night. I don't even bother looking at all the cars because I'm too busy having fun with our crew all day. Good Guys is the best show we have really in the South East so I look forward to it.

So you're headed to Indy rather than Kazoo. I think it's too bad the NSRA and Goodguys are hitting head to head in the same part of the country that close together.

I don't think you are being fair about letting certain cars in the shows. Where am I going to show my Ford Tempo at ?

    I had fun....sorry.

As has been said, if you don't like it don't go.

I don't care if you don't like it.
I don't care if you think people that put on car shows are greedy.
I don't care if you don't like me or my car.
I had a ****ing riot and I can't wait for Kansas and have made more friends at Goodguys show than I did in high school......

I don't know why they can't get more cars at this venue (or madison, waukesha, or berrien springs for that matter) but it's not my job to worry about that.

For those of you that have quit "greedguys"....GOOD! Bad at***udes **** and I don't want to hear it on my weekend off so THANK YOU for keeping you negativity at home so the rest of us can have a good time.

On that note Kzoo has always been the ssecond weekend of September but got sick of getting walloped by shades of the past (vendors) and the show in Frankemuth (cars) so they moved a weekend later. Goodguys had already moved INDY to IMS at that point......**** happens and it is hard to pick between two good shows.

As far as late model cars at goodguys shows....it is something they are trying.

At chicago, Kansas, and Charlotte they will elt any american powered car in the show on SUNDAY ONLY. They are doing this to get younger guys involved (a g body, f body, or fox mustang is cheaper than a rat rod) and car counts up on SUNDAYS ONLY. It really wasn't a big deal at Chicago just as it hasn't been an issue at most NSRA events. If they bother you, don't look at them, I don't. I don't look at Mopars either. I don't complain that GG shouldn't let them in, I just don't look at them.
