I have the Chevrolet valve cover scripts for my 327. Already have the orange engine paint, but I'm wondering what color was the script from the factory? I've seen black and an off white (ivory?).

They didn't paint the script. It's something people do on their own. The cars are m*** produced so they don't take the time to do little details such as painted the scripts on the valve covers

I could be wrong but I don't think the 327 came with the script covers, not that it matters, I guess. I think the 327s came those sort of rectangular inset covers. At least that's what I remember. Like I said, I could very well be wrong...and if I am, then I'm absolutely positive someone will be along to tell me so in just a few seconds...3...2...1

You could always tell everyone it's a 283.

Agreed...All my 327's had the plain cover with the rectangualr inset with a gold colored plate with eng/hp. My 283's all had script covers...

  10. Sweet pic, and yeah the script sure was painted on.

    Maybe a Argent silver instead?

  12. I'm sure I'm wrong on this but I thought it was black in '55-'56 and silver in '57? I painted mine silver.

Well, it's a 327 but I'm going for the late '50s look. I could tell everyone that it's a 283... I guess it's better than slapping Lincoln or Olds valve covers on a sbc.

  14. You could go this route...

The stencils are readily available for the script Chevrolet. Usually the tri five suppliers like Cl***ic Chevy(Eklers)

I know the script valve covers came on 327's in 1967.

Yup, used them before. They make a tough job simple and are under $20 for the pair. Worth their weight in gold...
