Was this an Apache thing only? was it a 3 year only option?

I think he's talking about the '60-'61 Custom Cab body trim like this 1960...

    Or this 1961...

    If so, it's '60-'61 only.

When he said arrow shaped it makes me think of the '59 stuff and not the 60-61. That stuff looks more like a fishing hook to me.

arrow points back, instead of forward.

    It's a deluxe trim option.

Apache is the name for all light trucks. Does not indicate what trim options it had.

Apache was a light truck, the two trucks shown by zman were both fleetside trucks. And yes that trim is fleetside only trim, but if you are talking about the later pics by terd, then ignore what I said completely.

They were still being called Apache in 1960 and 1961. The hood badge on a '61 says "Apache 10". But, yeah, like the others said it's just a model name. Like Monte Carlo. The trim was an option for "Custom Cab" Apaches in 1960 and 1961 (the pics I posted). The Custom Cab model had trim and interior upgrades over the regular Apache (the base model). The later Custom Cab models had different body trim. And the GMC trucks had a different side body trim too, a single spear.

They started being called "C 10" for half tons, "C 20" for 3/4 tons and "C 30" for 1 tons in '62 or '63. At least that's the way I understand it.

You already saw the '58-'59 style, and then the '60-'61 style. Here's the '62-'66 style.

And then the GMC trucks had a different design.

So whatever thewishartkid was asking about, hopefully someone answered it.

I was thinking of the 60-61. Seems to me the's are not very common. most just have the straight chrome.

Yes, the side trim for 60-61 Apache was an option. This trim package is very rare and hard to find. I am currently restoring this factory original 61. 1961 was the last year for the "Apache", starting in 62 they were called C10's.

I think that step in the bedside is also a rare factory option. The bedside trim goes BIG money on ebay.

I think the step in the bedside is probably a rare Pep Boys option?

From what I understand, they were a dealer installed option. I found a set some years ago & installed them on my truck. They come in very handy, as I use this truck as a daily driver. I actually got a template with them, which helped a lot...ya don't want to cut the holes too big.

Yes, they were originally sold by the dealer as an option. I don't care for them but they did serve a purpose. I will be removing mine and filling the hole.
