I am looking for flat belt material to fix my lathe. The belt that broke is 2 inches wide and roughly 58 inches. There is quite a bit of adjustment, so a couple inches either way would be ok. I have someone who can join the ends if all I can find is the material. This one was leather, it had gotten really dry then allowed to be out in the weather for some time before I got the lathe. I tried to rehydrate the belt with boiled linseed oil but before I could get it back to good health, it snapped and it was popcorn fart dry all the way to the core. I appreciate any help...

I used conveyor belt material and the zipper joints to fix my SB 13 worked like a champ, maybe your local UPS building could help you out.

Look in McMaster-Carr.com...Check local Industrial power supply...Or you can use a ribbed serpentine auto engine belt [8-ribb is about 1' wide] inside out but won't have the joint..

Find the Sheldon lathe forum on Yahoo lists and then find John Knox. He is a retired supervisor from Sheldon and operates a flat leather belt business on the side.
If you can't find him, PM me and I will send you his phone number and email addy.

The way my lathe is designed, you would have to disassemble the whole head to put the belt on without the joint.

Belt Services, Elmhurst Ill. Give them the lenght and the width. Tell them it's for a lathe. You'll just hafta pull it around the pulleys and insert the pin. They usaly ship within two days. Around 60 bucks. I own a Belting Business in canada, and deal with them.
