Anyone know where you plumb in a mech water temp gauge into a 230 L head?

there is a fitting, however it appears to be a for an electrical gauge. a mech takes a pretty large hole.

Anyone out there running aftermarket gauges on a flathead six?

I put a mechanical gauge in my '55 and use the aforementioned port on the block, and I think I had to even use one of the adapters that came with the gauge.

It goes into the port on the driver's side of the head, a few inches forward of the firewall end of the head.

This is a picture from my '53 B4B. Head is obviously off the engine, but the mechanical temperature gauge line can be seen sitting pretty much exactly where it plugs into the head, and shows the fitting that goes into the head.

thanks for the picture. I have that port however it is very small, it has an electrical sending unit in it now. Maybe I just need to use adapters?

How about an oil pressure line?

If you are using a mechanical gauge, you need to have proper submergence of the temp probe. There should be enough room but you may need an adaptor fitting.

I understand how they work, just am trying to figure out how to get mine in there. the problem is that the currently hole in which the sensor would be placed appears to be way smaller than what you would normally encounter (like 5/16 in diameter). normally, you have a 1/2 or so hole that is closed off with a plug you can remove and install the temp sensor via an threaded br*** fitting. Perhaps I just need to take a harder look at it.

After looking at it closely, it is indeed about 5/16 size. I took an aftermarket water temp probe and compared it, there isnt anyway it would fit into the hole, let alone the br*** threaded collar. I am resigned to use the electrical sensor.

thanks for all of the help.
