<-----------After painting the Olds I was getting a bit bored with the minor details, polishing chrome, painting floorboard, cleaning up the wiring, that I wanted to get my hands a little dirtier so I move the 57 up front and started tearing into it. Bit of history: We bought it February 2008 - 1957 Chevy LWB: Turned it into a short bed during Christmas break: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=319393 This past week, following LUX BLUE's great post on the camaro subframe in one day i installed the camaro clip. We call her the "Time Bandit", because ever since we bought it, it seems to steal hours and days from under us, I had 3 days to work on this, memorial day weekend, but it took 10 day!!! Of course I was working on it in the afternoons and stuff so I should not complain. Won't bore you with the details, LUX's post pretty much explains it all, yes it is 28 1/2 inches from the front body mount, don't doubt the LUX, I did and it ended up costing me..... actually that's where the extra days of work came in. In the pics its sitting on 2x4's high enough to get the jack into it, the 14 inch wheels don't help either, plus the fact that its still on the original rear end height and tires does not help. But its a roller. Next I am going to rebuild the suspension, bodwork, blah, blah, blah. This thing is going to be a budget beater. Looking for 15 inch 5x4.75 steel wheels, anybody got a spare set in the austin area? Also a 4wd s10 sonoma, jimmy rear end with disc brakes? ''''''god I love working on old cars''''
More pictures.....(not letting me do too many pics in one post) The 3rd picture shows where I made a stand for the front frame horns, I welded pieces of metal to hold up the horns when I cut them off the frame, marked the garage floor and when the clip was on I lined it all back up, it aint pretty when you line it back up cause the subframe is wider up front, but all of that is hidden behind the radiator support and such.
Last of the pictures. Although my welding skills are more than adequate, one of my neighbors came by asking if he could throw some beads on it, (he likes working on olds cars--oh and he's a welder by trade with 25 years under his belt) I didn't hesitate... I'll get pics of that on here later. This is how it all lined up.
Hey guys, I am looking for 15 inch 5x4.75 steel wheels, anybody got a spare set in the austin area? Also a 4wd s10 sonoma, jimmy rear end with disc brakes? Thanks
Hey man! Looking good! You have another option for rear end as well. camaro/trans am works gangbusters, but there is another "hidden" f-body, which typically came with posi and disc in the rear. You know those ugly arse Caddy Sevilles from the late 70's-early 80's? the ones that looked like they had been hit from behind when new, and had a hood that was like...I dunno 40 feet long? F-Body. and since You asked nicely, I will shoot You a p.m. that will set You up with both where to get a matching set of 4 wheels, and the rear end at the same time! keep up the good work. Lookin sweet....
Man Lux is there anything you do you not know......you're a wealth of information!! I'll give him a call. Rey
