Need help in identifying engine

From my question it's obvious I don't know **** about
Fords. Pulled it out of a 1989 F350 I s****ped out. Wasn't the original engine.
390, 427, 428, 429?
Any help would be appreciated.

460 possibly 429, but more likely a 460 from the mid 70s

 

I'd say squirrel is on the right track, definately not an FE.

 

Actually I could be way off, it has serpentine belt stuff, but the carb looks old...so you probably need to find as many numbers as you can to figure out what it really is. Could be an 80s-90s 460 from a truck? they went to efi around 86 so it could be converted to carb?

The numbers on the block, should be by where the starter is.

 

I'd look for as many numbers as you can, the first 4 characters are what's important. The numbers look like E4TE which translates to

E = 1980s
4 = 4th year of the decade (ie. 1984)
T = Truck
E = Engine

So if you find that the casting numbers are all pretty close, then the engine was probably made the year of the newest casting number, or soon after that.

 

No EGR and points distributor so it looks pre 73.

 

yeah, but look at the pulleys and brackets up front, my guess is it's an EFI motor that was retrofitted with carb/ignition from something older. Or vise-versa

 

If it came from a big truck, it could also be a 370. My guess looking at the carb is 460 with different front brackets, or like Squirrel says, and EFI motor with an older intake.
