I love Strombergs, I hate Strombergs.

    Why do we do it?

All I wanted to do was go from a single Stromberg to a dual set-up. A month later I'm still messing around with the new one I've added.
Two stuck jets, a stuck power valve, a rebuilder who's got to much work on, a cracked manifold, being ****ed over by Vintage Speed the list just goes on and on.

But I can't get enough of these 97's, having yet another one rebuilt for 'spare'.

And to think that most of us actually fight over these!

I hear ya! I read and read on Strombergs; here, MSN and on the Barn. I read Bishop's book and even consulted a few "experts" on the MSN site- all VERY helpful and willing to help!

I was meticulous with everything; emulsion tubes, surfacing the top horn to the body, made my own top gasket for so it doesn't "wick out" the gas. I was very excited about how it looks and about hearing my flatty with a nicely rebuilt carb........gas leaking all over the place.

I haven't brought it up, asked here or on the flatty sites yet. I just put it on the back burner for the time being. I've got to mucy fabrication work for right now.

But, you know what, I still love those things!!!!

You, sir, have a command of understated wit only found in a select few
of the denizens on this site.

LMAO. I love it! I nominate Bruce to be the offcial HAMB jester.

I've been down most of those same roads as you with my 97's. The only one that really pissed me off was getting f'd by V/S. Why do we do it? For the same reason you're running that obsolete engine. 'Cause anyone can order a new Holley from Summit and slap it on their crate SBC. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good question, the dual 81's on my motor have been the least of the problems. I've been fighting leaks...oil line, water pump, fuel line, etc.

Find the time to get the exhaust installed and the car's a driver...

Corn, 2 97s are too big for that motor. You need two 81s.

To be honest I still buy small stomberg parts from them and haven't had any problems yet. Don't get me wrong you guys "nwspeed" do some absolutly phenominal work, but I just can't handle the though of some one else "doing" carbs when I've invested so much to "do" them myself. Plus the last time I ordered somthing from the "other guy" I was doing 81's and you don't offer parts for them. I actually plan on placing an order for some cheaters when I get the money.

97's can be made to work okay with adjustable jets and give you a bit of scope to tune 'em up when you get to the track, though 81's are a better all round bet.
Not too many 81's in the UK though, eh Clark?

No worries, this post is abit redundant now as the carb is sweet again!

Had a float that had gone 'bad'.

I'm glad you hijacked it. I like to get feedback so I can make things better. I only sell the rebuild kits, throttle shafts and jet plugs. I welcome input on the site if it is confusing or unclear. Thanks, Marty

Very cool thanks for getting back on that. Next time I need any of those thing I'll ive you my busness first. Although if you sold the little odds and end, I'd prolly only go to you. The thing is, I've invested a bit of money to do all that stuff myself, to include the plating, so I really won't ever send out the carbs, but parts, I seem to never have enough of. Thanks again
