Rolf, Check with this guy and check his photos. I don't know him personally but have seen a bunch of his cars. Look at his Project Rot Tin 58 Biscayne. Its crazy! He can tell you what works on these cars.

If you were to put a 348 in your 58 that would bring the front down because the 348 weighs more then the 283. I have a 60 impala that i took 3 1/2 coils out the front an 4 out of that back an now its not low enough for my liking so im gonna put air ride on it so i can lift it up when need an still let it sit in the weeds!

I've been reading with much interest. Hubby just purchased this gem that has been sitting in dry storage for about 10+ years and ready to lower it. I'm getting nose bleeds now. Absolutely love your black '58 but excited about this white one which is almost all original paint and 60's custom red / black tuck and roll interior. The '58's are my ultimate impala. We have a great Brookwood too that debuted in the 'Goodfella's movie'. We call it Bugsy....This one was bagged by our good friend Boris in Ohio.

Bags is the last thing I'd do for a car I intended to take on road trips. Gets very expensive on a roll back for a blown bag. Why not drop spindles?

Thanks for all the great advice, somebody wanted it more than I so it got sold.

Good news is that it afforded me the '32 five window instead.

    Holy old thread, Batman.

There are absolutely no issues with an air suspension if properly installed. Millions of miles per year are traveled on air by long and short haul trucks across the globe.

A blown bag is a sign of improper installation - most often the bag rubbing on the frame or other ch***is component or a sliced line that wasn't properly secured or grommetted.

Coil and leaf springs can break, too. A replacement bag, line, or fitting is likely an easier thing to find a replacement for and fix than a "traditional" type of spring.
