Chrome Shop in OC

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1oldtimer, Aug 17, 2011.

  1. Anyone have a good chrome shop in the OC area. I need to get s bumper de-chromed, un-chromed........the chrome taken off so I can powdercoat it.

Anyhow I have OC Plating, Anahiem Plating to call any others?.

    TIA

    All you need is sandpaper.

As long as the plating is in good shape (not peeling) you don't need to take off all the plating.
The vast majority of the plating is in the nickel; the chromium is extremely thin and can be sanded off pretty quickly. The nickel can be powdercoated over just fine, as long as it isn't peeling.

  6. The chrome is peeling off and has some slight rust. I was trying to find a good used bumper that was straight and the only one I found was a chrome one (the aftermarket one SUCKS, it's not even a true C channel).

So far the places I've called from the phone book are ranging from $85-$100 to take off the old chrome.

    $85-$100?
Man the guy I use to blast bumpers usually charged $25-$30 each to blast.
If it is peeling the blasting should take it off as well as the rust.

  8. Still looking, will blasting take it off like Jimmy said?

  9. back up, need to get it done. I called a powdercoater and they said you could coat over the chrome but I'm worried of the flaking chrome. They said they could feather it and coat it, but blasting won't take it off.
