So my brother decided to wash the engine compartment of his 53' merc. Now it wont run about half throttle and it doesnt charge. Wooo...

So i think i got the 3/4 throttle thing figured out, coil is gunny bag. But the voltage regulator is $67 dollars plus tax, and he is broke.

Its 6v positive ground, with a good generator. I already tested the genny, and it has good output and can charge up to 18 volts bench tested. Its good.

Its also got new wiring between the voltage regulator and generator. Its good.

Has a solid 6 volts on the battery post.

How can you test or repair these regulators? 35 amp, 6 volt, positive ground.

You should own an old Motors manual :)

or google "testing ford voltage regulator" or even Youtube sometimes has different makes of regulator adjustments.

Some points can be sanded but some points should not...depends on what the manual says.

No hits on those...just dive in.. :)

One side of the reg will be the regulation of volts, and the other is a cut out. One set normally open and other closed...when not running. The one that is closed while running; you should test for power on each side of the points. If the points are not making a connection there, it will show with a test light checking each side.
