Salina - Got this in the mail today...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike in Tulsa, Aug 17, 2011.

  1. I got this in the mail today for my 51 GMC. Man, was I surprised! We left Sunday right before the awards - I never expected to win anything.

Does anybody know what the judging criteria is?

Cook beans, congrats. The best awards are the ones you aren't expecting.

As a long time judge for the KKOA at Gettysburg, and the Leadsled, when I was able to attend, I know the criteria.
In short, it is the car you'd most want to have sitting in your driveway.
They emphasize that it is NOT an ISCA type car show, and we don't judge the cars for points. We base it on how nice it is, how it fits in our tastes, and it's coolness factor. whether we'd drive it or not. It does not have to be perfect, fresh, or high dollar. I believe the only guidelines might be that they choose a late model for an award, and perhaps a "ratrod" type car for one, as well.
If they give out a "best" award, like best paint or best engine, then they DO tend to use a regular judging type criteria for the award.
    Congrats!

Good on ya! I missed your truck up there, unfortunately!

  24. My buddy GrouchySS and I both got the same Top 25 awards in the mail today. Congrats to all who got an award at KKOA Salina, there were some KILLER rides there! As usual, all the cars there were VERY deserving of an award. I would have awarded the wheel stander of Povertyflats the WILDEST ride in the park.

I'm glad that 3 of my buddies won awards. I usually never like many of the winners at this show. But really the main thing is that we have fun. And we DID. :)
