'49-'51 Merc door removal

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustynewyorker, Aug 17, 2011.

  1. Any easy way to do these? Three big phillips screws in each hinge, on the cowl and on the door, and fairly tight quarters to try to drive the pin out.

Bear in mind we're talking an old New York rustbucket that's never, ever had the doors off, too.

  2. I have an 8 blade counter sink bit with a 1/4" shank I put in my 90 degree drill and took the heads off the screws with. Worked real good but still had to remove the thread shank. Wasn't hard to do with the door out of the way.

I use a drill to clean the head of the bolt
Then I weld a nut two the head of the Philip's head, heat breaks it loose
I then remove the bolt a few seconds after welding. It works 9 times out of 10
