School me. Do the rear fenders from say a 1950 dogde bolt on ? And also a 1954 Chrysler ? I know they look to be different lenght. Just not sure if both are bolt on type?
'50 Dodge fenders bolt on and off in one piece. '54 Chrysler ones have a removable lower section but the whole fender doesn't unbolt like the Dodge, and they do not interchange. '50 Chrysler and Dodge fenders also do not interchange, the Chrysler ones are bigger. I tried this with Dodge and DeSoto fenders, they don't swap.
Thanks for this information. Were the Chrysler fenders longer? see I'm thinking of a custom, and longer fenders might help. You know how the 53 chevy rear fenders have that rounded front leading section, that goes almost up to the door post (2dr)...thats what I'm after.
They are longer, but if you want to use the fenders from a '54 Chrysler (53-54 Chrysler and DeSoto are the same) you'll have to cut that whole section of the quarter panel off of the donor car, and when you go to graft it onto the '50, you'll have to rework the inner fenders, since the Dodge inner fenders are basically the quarter panel with the fenders bolted on over the top, and the Chrysler/DeSoto cars have an inner wheel tub like a more modern car does. Would be a lot of work, but would actually look really nice, one of the issues that the early 50's Dodges have is the lack of length in the rear fenders. I've seen photoshops of the stock Dodge fenders being cut and extended forward toward the door 10 inches or so, looks really good that way, I know at least one other HAMB member actually did that with good results. Not sure which one was more work but it looked right.
I am working on a 54 Chrysler wagon. There are two different rear finders on the car. One has a horizontal bump out where the chrome accent piece is. The other one is flat, and is smooth from top to the bottom. I would like to match them up, but I like the smooth ones. If anyone has any imput, please help.
All, 49-52 Chrysler , Desoto , and Dodge Fenders , except station wagons , All have the same bolt pattern ! I have 50-52 Chrysler rear fenders on my 49 Dodge ! 49-54 Chrysler , Desoto , and Dodge Station Wagons have the same bolt pattern ! 53-54 station wagons used 51-52 bodies ! Good Luck, Sonny
