Farmergal, I am sorry this happened to you and your boyfriend. You guys seem like just the kind of good people we need for the future of our hobby. Hang in there...I'm pulling for you.

As soon as I read the opening post that was the very first thing that popped into my head. People just don't act like that unless there is something else going on with em.

Angry guy ranting about things that just make no sense, escorted by a couple of older gentlemen who seem to be trying to calm him down and telling him that it's a nice car and everyone assumes he's just some asshole? That doesn't make sense to me at all.

I'd bet the guy suffered from some kind of mental illness.

  4. One in three Americans suffer from one form or another of mental illness..if that is the case here, his care takers should have explained the situation to you, and appologized for him.

The old saying goes those that can't become critics. They are in every hobby and business just stay above it and cherish the 99 other great people at the show.

I'm pretty sure he didn't have a mental illness. There were no caretakers there with him and he was there by himself and seemed extremely self sufficient. The two older gentlemen that were there with him definately were not his caretakers; they were friends. i wouldnt have an issue if he had a mental illness but im pretty confident this wasnt the case as he was obviously there by himself and the multiple times i saw him looking at cars; there were no caretakers with him.

to me; it seemed like he was severely intoxicated. It definately seemed like he was intoxicated and speaking like an intoxicated person who is the know-it-all who can't shut up. i could be wrong

If he was there by himself and drunk, then he was or soon would be driving while intoxicated. 911 is your friend. Remember though that ass holes have problems just like everyone else does, but instead of getting help when he needs it people just laugh and point at them.

I tell them " I didn,t build it to meet YOUR expectations - I built it to meet MINE " Now if there were 400 cars there tell him to go find one he does like . Said loudly enough this should discourage him from ever coming around again !

If someone tore into my car like that, am I the only one here that would egg him on, agree with him, and try to cause a BIGGER scene? I'd start in with him, like "whoever owns this must have his head up his boyfriends ass" or something, my friends would be doubled over laughing, the guy would look stupid and not even know it, I'd start rubbing his back or something just to confuse him, immediately become his best friend, tell him I love him, I'd get so raunchy that the guy would get embarrassed and leave.... but I do have a sick sense of humor. Oh the joys of mind f**king dumb people!!!

Theres a guy like that at the local VW shows, went on a rant about high performance valve springs.... said..."with those springs your valve lash will always be one thousandth off!!!" My reply " Nothing on any of my cars is within one thousandth of what it should be"

Why are people assholes? Because everyone lets them be assholes.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone acts like a douche and people defend it with. "Just ignore him, thats just how he is"

No, they are that way because people don't make them be accountable for their words or their actions. So the next time they act like a jerk, we all must assume part of the blame for being inactive.

Good advice and very eloquently stated.

  18. Hey sister, don't let one jackoff's (sorry) Blah! Blah! Blah! ruin even a minute of your time. Hell he's probably a wannabe anyway. Should have told him "That cars can be worked on, but not him, he's perminently screwed";)

We love ya kid, don't give it even a minutes thought.

There's a guy like that at some of the local cruze nights here. He talks so much s#%t about how people ethnic rigged their car by being cheap {I call it inganewity} pardon my spelling. I went over and looked at his 57 chev gasser and I said to him"I thought a real gasser had a streight axle, not A arms welded under the crossmember" He shut right up and left. Boy they can sure dish it out but they cant take it! There all over this crazy rock.

I see things at shows that make my skin crawl. I see cars that are unsafe, I see the same accessories on 1/2 dozen or more cars of all types, I see lousy body fit and paint, I see crooked front engine dress and twisted belts. To keep it all to myself my brain reminds me that those folks are currently having more fun than I because my shit's not done. Also, to them, their car's a significant as a Deusenberg Murphy Roadster. Who am I to piss on their good time. Do I always keep it to myself? No. But I will only share it with folks I'm very close to that simply want to know, and I never "announce" what I'm seeing for all to hear. Manners are not as common as they used to be. Breeding shows. Cry baby attitudes abound. A confrontation proves nothing. Best to be agreeable. "Wow, you're right! I never noticed that! Thanks for pointing it out." Even if what they say is borderline hateful/evil, just agree with them. Nothing slaps a person harder than knowing they can't get under your skin. A very wealthy and succesful man once told me, and this was so out of context for someone of his social and financial stature, "Never let a motherfucker know he can get to you. He can't. It's just that simple." This man was worth hundreds of millions in the early 80s and very well respected in the community and in his buisness. He's absolutely right, but it isn't always simple. Your post proves that out. Mazooma1 is right on the money as well. It's the same message in very nice terms.

Hey farmer girl, Just wanted to let you know about my two favorite up-coming CT shows- Cruisin on Main in Manchester which is rescheduled for Sept 18th, and my all time favorite- the Hot Rod Fall Out! in Glastonbury, Oct. 8th.

My feisty new York City raised wife will likely be going to a hearing next month for a "road rage" kind of incident in a mall parking lot a couple of years ago. I'm hoping it may convince my 2 daughters that "just movin" on" is a pretty good first response sometimes.

I have heard a few of these types at many shows I have been to. I have had this happen to me even long ago thankfully about my in-progress car. Now I get it to my face with the artwork I do. At the last three Lonestar Roundups I have had people come up to me to tell me that my artwork looks like crap or worse. It seems so crazy for someone to put so much effort into letting me know it, that I have actually found it quite funny.

  28. This is what gets me...it takes so much more energy to be an asshole about something so petty.

Wow..now you got me thinking who that was...I was there with my truck. I'm kind of thinking I ran into him picking apart an old chevette with a small block and 5 speed stuffed into it. It was meant to be a fun little sleeper and he was picking apart stress cracks in the shock towers, blah blah, how could someone build something like this,.. etc. My buddy laughed at him and told him he was a real buzz kill and we walked away....

Have fun with your car...it looks great.
