Has anybody tried to mount a york air pump to a 1956 chevy 235 straight six ? I'm not running power anything. So I would think I could do it. Thanks
I have the brackets somewhere around here.....it was pretty common to see them in the old days, with add-on a/c systems
picture.... sorry it's not on an enigine, I do have one I could see if I could figure it out...and yeah, I could probably be convinced to part with it, if my son doesn't want it.
It looks like the main bracket for the york pump mounts where the generator would go. Where does the alternator go and whats the idealer for? Let me know what you need for the lot of it? Thanks
I'm sorry, I led you astray. The brackets I have are for a 230, not a 235. The 230 has holes on the head on the side, near the front, for mounting the big bracket. The idler mounts to three timing cover bolts. I expect you could make a bracket to hang the York on the 235, it will be fun figuring out where to bolt it on. Here's a few diagrams of how Chevy mounted the big compressor they used in the late 50s, on the 235. Might give you some ideas. Looks like they used at least one 1/4" bolt going to the side cover. They also used a two groove damper, instead of the single groove.
Thanks for your help. I thank the hard part will be finding useable threaded holes. You would think sense I don't have anything but the alterator there would plenty of room. The pictures are a big help. I just don't want to use the little air pumps! Thanks again.
I found the 235 compressor setup, it was buried in the shed where I found the 230 setup. The bracket mounts to the head, using the two front bolts on the left side, and also on the water pump? the lower pulley has two bolts holding it on.
That's the same setup that was on my 59 El Camino when I had it with the 235 in it. I don't think I ever took a photo of the engine though.
