Why does the engine angle differ between an old school FED and an old school altered. A Fed has an engine that angles toward the front of the car and an altered has an engine that angles towards the rear of the car. Thanks in advance.

They're allways pointing at the diff pinion but in the dragster the engine is much lower down.

With a dragster the engine is further back towards the rear end so the static weigh helps traction. On the altereds the motor is further foward so the static isnt there so the motor is pitch up high and you acheave traction thru weight transfer upon acceleration.

This was a 'standard' they adhered to in the days of prehistoric tire compounds...
'Weight Transfer' was augmented by engine setback, increased curb height, ballast, even helium in front tires.
Hot Rod Ingenuity was alive and well.
