I am planning on rough machining all the pieces, welding it all together and then finish machine everything to allow for the welding distortion. I should be starting on mine next week when my bearings and material that I ordered show up. I will try and take some pictures when I am building it, but when I get going on a project it's hard for me to stop and take pictures.
No problem. I just have to get a QC and start measuring! Just don't bid on the one I want! LOL. I've got both AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor and will probably do it in Inventor. Do you have either program? If not, I could send you a print.
It's funny...just yesterday..and old buddy of my dad's (and former round track driver) was telling me about his first quick change..made of a Divco rear (the milk truck previously mentioned)....behind a flathead ....in a 32 coupe.. he told me another time, he wished he had the all the coupes he cut up and raced... yep...me too!!
The quill shaft was bought from Speedway Motors, and while everything else concerning the shaft alignment worked, the input bearing location, in relationship to the housing, needed to be shifted rearward on the quill shaft. Steve welded on the collar, then machined it down. '22
For those of you following this thread, check out the following link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=415472 Old Guy has fabricated his own steel quick change and it is a work of art. Beautiful craftsmanship, check it out. '22
Bringing the BTTT looking for info on these castings I just picked up... Any info would be appreciated. Who, how, when, where, etc... Thanks, Neal
I have a quickie that I was gonna use under my track T. In my area Southern Mi. a couple of brothers named Quigley built them for Roundy Round boys that raced at Butler Manchester and other dirt tracks in area. These were made from a floater rear end from 3/4 ton and bigger trucks used the commonly available internals from Halibrand. a very beefy unit I ended up putting it back in garage as I was having trouble finding narrowed axles that fit. Put in. an 8 inch made to look like a quickie until I actually find axles for the quigley. Haven't tried to post pics here but if there is interest I can try!
Very cool!! Are those the only ones you have? Those are very nice looking castings! Those will make a super cool quickchange. I build a quickchange on the stock center using the pieces shown. Monte Pixler
The one in the picture is a standard closed drive Halibrand V8 shaft. You can use the open drive Halibrand shaft as well.
