I picked this up for 2 grand and gotta boast a bit. I am also not naive to think I may have wasted 2 grand but I think not. It runs, drives, shifts and is real solid. It needs winshield wiper motors, wiring (complete), exhaust and paint to be a real solid street rod. :D What ya think. I am also looking forward to alot help from here when I get started on the full resto.

You got screwed bigtime!!!! I'll meet you halfway and cover gas, tolls, cost of vehicle and meals to make you feel better. <grin> Welcome!! 2 doors may be more popular but more doors makes for more fun.

    Good for you!
I gave 3 grand for mine, and had to haul it home in pieces.
and I didn't even get all the pieces.

I read your other thread about finding trim parts. That is the saving grace of my car in parts, there are parts every where for a 47 Ford.

Holy crap oldcarfart. I thought I was gonna bust a gasket I laughed so hard at your post. Good to see somebody with a sense of humor. A little further info it has a 72 Pontiac 400 and a TH400 tranny. The rear end is original. It came with a straight 8 originally and I found one, but I hear they are crap. With that in mind I think I will stick with whats in it. Anyway I wonder if the rearend can handle it for a few months, years, decades....you know however long it takes the misses to let me unass the money.

  10. Not bad at all...
In about 85 I paid 500 bucks for this '48 fastback with tired straight 8/hydro and a busted-out back window....drove it home on rotten tires.
Had to completely rewire it buffed the paint, lowered it and drove it as -is. I always wanted to pop my 389 in it but never got around to it. A buddy wanted the car and it went away...
Great cars! Ganal took a few photos of mine for coverage for the street rod nats in '89.

Are you sure that's the original rear end? Weren't 47 Pontiacs torque tube cars?
You got a hell of a deal on that car, even for a 4 door.

Same rear end as a olds.

  15. Open drive, although you should be able to drop in all the same rearends that interchange to a Chevrolet on the stock springs if you wanted to change it.

And yes, it's a good deal, the motor's worth a few bucks all by itself - depending on what codes are on it, it could be worth the entire $2000, but the odds are against you on that.

By the sound the motor has been built a bit. I am yanking it out next weekend to go through it and find out what is what as well as to re-wire the whole car. Hoping the guages are good. Gonna install the voltage regulators to try and stick with original guages. If not I will probably send them off for a restore. Will drop in a Moser 12 bolt in the end.
