Flathead pistions, What are your preferences for a street motor. 4" merc crank , SCOTT supercharger, mild cam. with visual HP . We had EGGE 4" pistons @100 over (Yup with the top machined off the "too high EGGE pistons to clear the offy heads.) We are now doing a (maybe) crack free block in its present STD bore ,so are looking for new pistons of a smaller size . Someone on ebay is selling 4 ring merc pistons but we know nothing about them .What are the Ross 3 ringers like for a basic blown street motor, or are there better 4 ring choices? We wont be racing or looking for ultimate boost.
I believe that jahns pistons are no longer made...NOS ones do still show up and well worth it if you have the time to search ....good luck.
Apart from oil contol what does the 4th lower ring do. In other words Ross 3 ringers compared to cast or forged 4 ring pistons. We need them ASAP in New Zealand.
I think the 4th ring is one of those never ending questions. some will say you need it some will say you don't. but think about it, do top fuelers run 3 or 4 ring pistons? if you were building a blown SB( add your choice of manufacturer here) would you hunt down 4 ring pistons for it? Use the ROSS, tried and tested , used in many blown applications - flatheads that is.
Re ross pistons Fox valley can help, but I cant see anything smaller than 3 5/16 . We have a 10 over block that will most likely clean up at 30 over , do Ross do small O/S pistons , if so where????
Call Ross. Talk to Moe. They will make you what you need no matter what it is. And supply rings. Loose the stupid cataloge. Ross pistons are amoung the best.
Kiwi, Ross pistons are a**** the finest in the world. If the cylinder is machined and honed to the correct piston to wall clearance, perfectly round, no taper, etc., there will be no slap or special warm up procedure what so ever, I promise, TR.
