Hello fellow HAMBers! My sister recently moved to Owensboro, KY and she's kinda been scouting around for me to see what the need for an automotive upholsterer is down there. I would be doing traditional hot rod/custom interiors as well as stock. Anything in the classic car field. I also do bodywork, leading, custom metal fab, top chopping, etc... so if anyone knows of a shop that is hiring or if there are upholstery jobs waiting for me down there I would be willing to go on a roadtrip! Check out my profile to see pictures of my work if you're interested. I'm just trying to get a feel for things first... If anyone knows of something in the area let me know via PM please! Thanks in advance. -P40-
check in evansville ind. about 30 miles away, lots of street rodders there, home of the frog follies, ask at aplus rod& kustom they should know
I would likely look around the the Evansville area, Not much as far as restoration shops in Owensboro, only one, that I can think of and Its pretty much a one man operation. Theres one upholstery supply store in Owensboro, they may be able to help you find something. Their # 270-683-0329 Give me a shout if I can help! BobbyD
Owensboro is kind of a desert when it comes to places you're describing. There are plenty of people into HAMB type cars, but most of them are working out of their own buildings in their back yards. The only place that can that has a real presence is S & J Kustoms 1116 Daviess Street Owensboro, KY 42303-3039 I know the owner and he is a nice guy. He's not really looking for an upolsterer, but he might able to make some suggestions. Since he's a one man show, I'd suggest agains calling. I know that doesn't help you much since you're out of town. If he knows you or you're a customer, he'll talk to you all day. If he thinks you're wasting his time, you know it pretty quickly. If you're in town visiting your sis, just stop by. He's there everyday and most Saturdays. If you do move to town, open your own business. There are enough garage builders around here that you'd be okay if you turn out a good product. Casey PS Yes, moonlite has an amazing buffet but Old Hickory has MUCH better meat. Just my two cents.
A good shop that I like is HHC just north of Evansville a few miles. They restored a vintage tractor seat for me and their shop is just like you want it--old iron getting the royal treatment. They guys are professional as is the work. Ryan is the owner. Hope this helps.
