Vintage Speed Card Adapter

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345window, May 6, 2005.

  1. Anyone using one? Thinking about putting one on a 289 (302 crank) with Trick Flow Heads and mild cam, with two 97's.

Are you planning on running the car without the hood? Do you ever open the hood?

I've got one but haven't tried it yet.

Fellow HAMB'r suedesled at NW Speed Equipment sells the dual carb to 4V intake adapter as well, & I have heard the Vintage Speed's adapters are not exactly up to standards. You might wanna contact him for one instead.

I just bought one from vintage speed off of ebay, but I didnt try it yet. Im also putting this on my sbf 302, but Im using Holleys...

I would of bought it from NW speed equitment if I knew he was a hamber and if I knew he made 2 diff styles...I did buy one from NW spd equit, but figures I ordered the wrong one and NW spd equit is cheaper on their prices rather than vintage speed.

I am running the vintage speed adapter. It works fine. The only problem I had was there were separate bolt holes for different carb pattern. Those holes had to be filled because they went through to the intake holes because it was for a smaller 4bbl. If I were to buy another, it would be the NW one.

This was the reason for making the two styles. I sell ours for 69.99 and the runners are equalized

I have a VS one and it ain't so great. Boones told me his NW adapter has counter sunk holes - the VS adpater does not have this feature and the carb linkage hits the tops of the studs sticking p from the manifold. I have not put any effort into finishing it but it should be a bolt on deal. I had to waller out the mount holes just for it to drop on the four manifold studs. That isn't hard - but it is BS I had to do that.

I'll ***ume since you put Trick Flow heads and a mild cam in the engine that you expect to get some performance gains from the modifications.

Stromberg 97's are about 150 cfm so, two of them aren't going to give you enough carburetion to realize the performance gains that the manifold and cam could provide with an appropriately sized four barrel.

I have no doubt that you'll be able to get the car to run with this set up but it will be a dog.

As DRD57 is noting, Trickflow heads and two strombergs are counter productive. I would not run 2 97 or 94 on any small block that was not stock or close to it. If it is built up, run two or three bigger carbs.

I have a NW speed adapter as Tudor mentioned, it is a quality product.

Chris50 has a 302 in a 50 Ford Sedan with 2 97s and the similar adapter (although his is 97 Heaven) The Fifty actually runs pretty well considering its undercarbed. His motor is a 9:1 with stock 70 heads , Edelbrock Performer intake, and a sorta mild Schneider cam.

With those Trick Flow heads, I'd go with a 4bbl if you are going for performance. Sounds like you want the look, though.

  16. Run a single 4 no one can see the carb when your winning.

No offense to the if I just had more than 1 carb I could be cool crowd but you just whistlin' in the wind if you think that a pair of 97s are going to feed your mildly built SBF.
Now compound that by doing it with an adapter.

Why drop the cash on a pair of decent heads, camshaft and a stroke change then wrap your fingers around its neck and choke the life out of it?

  17. Thanks everybody...I knew the CFM's would be low, since I dont know everything about everything, I put a call into 97 Heaven for input, several in fact. They moved and the number on the webpage (630-655-2272) is the same number they give on the voice mail. I didnt leave any messages.

I wanted to exhaust the facts on the adapter and the 97's before ruling them out. Thanks for helping out. I'm running the 4bbl, while looking into a multi-carb set up and saving up a few bucks.
    Thanks again!

Ive got one on a stock (ish) 289 with two 94's, and it HOWLS.I blocked the powervalve in one carb and seems better, havent done any testing on tarmac yet, only the dirt roads around the farm. No doubt road testing will show up more tuning to be done, but i reckon on a stock 289 ,two 94s are fine, depends how worked your motor is. Pretty ****ty casting though, mine had lots of flash in the runners, woul prefer a N/W speed one but didnt hear about em till too late.

Just wanted to let you know that the howling is caused by the unequal length in the runners. The faster air from one carb crossing the path of the slower air from the other causes a howl or at worst a whistle. This is easily noticed if you test the product first. Thanks for all the great feedback. It keeps me going.

Why not get (2) logs made for (6) 94' s or (6) 97's? That would be very cool!

Isnt there a HAMB'er that makes them?

I just ordered the one from NW, that way I don't have to deal with the holes for the smaller 4bbl in the one from speedway. I got the adaptor plus linkage for the price of the speedway one. That's good business as far as I'm concerned. I'm sending the speedway one back! I would recommend the one from nwspeedeqipment if anyone else is thinking about this set-up! Nicer guy too that seems to know more about what he is selling.:D

That's what im talking about...buy from NW! There is nothing more irritating talking to a guy who is selling stuff who knows nothing about it, except a part number and what color it is....AKA: "Kragen" parts counter guy.

Cool story! I have checked out the NW site...its pretty cool.
