I have spent several hours sealing the deal on a 53 ford custom line - it does not run but does turn over freely - it was parked here in the early 90's . OK it's not a 32, or a 34, ar a 40 but, it is a fairly straight nice old ford with a flattie!
Good job, I've always liked that year/style. looks complete, straight and very solid. congratulations I always love to see what the farmers have out back behind the grain silos, barns, etc.
Well aside from a set of 75 chavy pick up doors nothing. And as far as plans go I really don't have any yet. I have plenty of projects to keep me busy for a few years but the price was right so she's at least got a new barn to sit behing for now. ( Cleaned up and tarped though ) I know where i can pick up a 53 coupe shell for cheap so it might be coming home to.
Excellent score, and the flattie has speed equipment on it as well (air cleaner), just kidding. Very cool car, coolest grill on these fFords. Hope she runs for ya. Good luck dude. ~sololobo~
For now its going into my storage lot. I cleaned it all up and rat proofed it ( hopefully ) . I am in the middle of 2 projects so its gonna have to wait for any more attention. But on a side not i realized that the flathead i have in a 46 truck is a merc engine ( never really looked at till the other day ) so now i have a merc crank ...
Air cleaner on? - check All spark plugs in holes? - check Oil Fill Cap in Place? - check No parts missing? check -That there is a runner, with some fresh gas, clean plugs and a carb service, you could be driving this. Nice catch! .
From the looks of it, I'll bet it wouldn't take a whole lot to get it running. I notice that the Master cylinder cover has the top broken...
Yeah i dont know how it got broke but it probablly would have needed kitted or replaced anyway. But I am pretty sure it would fairly easy to get running, i dont know anything about the automatic trans it it though. I dont know if all those years sitting have been kind to it our if it has any issues
I wouldn't even fool with the old master cylinder swapping in a dual master will cost less than the single replacement will and is an EZ swap and a safer alternative,pm me if you need help and part numbers.
Not necessarily, most engines were swapped in re-manufactured. In the old days (50's 60's), the guys rebuilding the Flatheads would 'forget' to put the 4" cranks back into your rebuild. The customer wouldn't know the difference and the rebuilder would score some 'race parts'. -You never really know till you crack the oil pan or pull a head and measure stroke. .
I have been tinkering with the flathead in this car. I plan on fireing it up tomorow. Rebuilt the carb, changed oil , isolated the cars electric system - Fixed the starter - REplaced the battery cables ( with ones from the junk pile ) cleaned and gapped the plugs - Did a copmression test after letting the seafoam soak a couple days - & cylinders scored between 100 - 125 psi But 1 scored 55 psi ( I kinda figure its a stuck ring) either way I am gonna give at shot with fuel and ing hooked up ( not the cars fuel tank just a boat fuel can )
Ok I got it running tonight - I will try driving it tomorrow. Here is a link to a video of the second start up .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WJNTwnD93VE
