    Angel hair, nice touch!

When I was a kid my dad drove a '69 Ford Econoline. Dark blue with a white roof (to keep it cooler?) He did the whole interior (roof, too) with some kind of contact cement and a few books of shag carpet squares from ColorTile when they changed at the end of the year. In '76 he bought his first new van. A Ford Econoline. Bright orange. First thing out, bought a remnant of burn orange shag and did the whole floor. Plush, baby, plush.

No angel hair though. That'd would have been too much!

You mean you don't like that 70's shaggin' wagon look? ;)
Come on.. all the chicks would dig it, man.
That would be a lot of glass to cut/break/find/cut....
We have a fair number of Corvairs around here but none of this style anymore, that I have seen anyway.
There is a convertible with a ripped-up top sitting behind a garage about 5 hours away from me. I've been tempted to stop in when I drive by but am afraid he'd sell it. Too much stuff now.
How is the heating "system" in yours? The cars could get pretty stinky and down right deadly if not maintained.

edit: Angel hair and shag? Maybe you DO want the 70's shaggin wagon look. ;)

I saw a dude trying to get a spring out of a Saturn and he had no clue what he was doing. I was on my way over to offer help and the spring came flying out, missed him by inches but knocked a helluva dent into his wifes Caddy that was sitting right beside it.

I will be running radials. If I build an open wheel ride someday I'll run bias.

I may recycle that bit on the next tech week... :D

I have a set of springs that have coils closer together than these. I'm going to play with them and see if I can get a spring out of them that will be about an ich taller and still have full rounds on the coils.

The heating system is all there except the boots on either side of the blwer motor and the cables that run all the way back are screwed up.

I'll probably put a gas heater in it and skip the whole exhaust gas heat thing. Then again, none of my cars have had heat or air so why should this one be different? :D

    Typical cables.
Those gas heaters always scared me.
The cold wouldn't bother me... it would be all that glass steaming up.
No.. I wasn't making any comments about the activities that might be happening in the van. ;)

I was at the street rod nats in Springfield Mo. this weekend and saw one of these vans with a vista cruiser roof. The roof was cool but the rest of the van not so much! I dig the A100 dodges also.

  7. Hy Rashy, I like just fine with thetires and wheelsthat are on it and that stance isright on. But the wheel thing would be great.

    Later,

Thanks, kinda what I expected. Pretty much the same as doing a MII. I've just never worked on a Corvair setup before.

That van is gonna be cool when you're done. I've only seen one on the road before.

    Rash,
Great van, I love those little "death traps" myself.
    Great 'vair info here- http://www.corvaircenter.com/

BTW, torque thrusts look mean on the "pedal forward" vair trucks & vans.

Go kiss yer Wife she did you well.

  10. Watch out for the loose nut behind the wheel.

  11. go with the gmc v6 (305) alot of people just toss them away. i was going to do the sbc conversion on my girls '65 corvair but she nixed it and we sold it.

When I was in LA last year, Taluka Lake to be precise, a couple Corvairs, one a coupe, the other a dropped Greenbrier, went screeming around the corner and Moorepark and Lankershim. That "box" cornered like a slot car (maybe even better) and stayed as flat as a Ferrari, then it really hit the boogy. I was quite impressed. I miss my old '64 Monza more than any car I've owned.
    Nice rig Rash.

I had a bead on an A100 but I like this better being Chevy and all.

When I was thinking on the A100 I was planning slots. I could go that way also.

I'll just roll what I got til I get some on the cheap...

Jeeze Rashy....I never thought you'd lower yourself to a corvair! Dude, wake up man, your messin around with 60's compacts!

Perhaps the jynx is due to my little Lark sitting in the same spot in your garage a few months ago.....

One of the best two-tone color combo's. Spoke's or slot's will look great on it. 283? Cool.

On my Rampside (same suspension as the Greenbriar), I took two full coils out of the front and one out of the rear. My cut-off wheel made it easy as pie. Now the stance is great - with a slight dago. Ride is not bad, although it is a little bouncy, but it usually does not bottom out. (Sorry, I don't know how to post pics.)

There's a guy in Canada who restores South Wind gas heaters - google him or send me a PM and I'll see if I can find his site.

drove one back in the sixtys, tie-tied curtians, dash mounted 8-track and SIX speakers! all carpeted, no back seats. Driving to Bowling Green festival in 1969, me and about a dozen of my closest friends and blew the trans axle. Don't remember how we got back to school in Pittsburg Kansas. Man, those were the days...........I think?

Man this link came back from the dead. Sadly, the van hasn't.

I blew up one engine, have three or four more now and think I have enough crap to put one back together.

The van, and all things Corvair, have moved to the house garage so I can focus? on the Elky.

That hasn't worked either. Seemed the focus needed to be on work and finances and nothing has been worked on in months.

    That's about to change...
