I've got a '51 Chevy with a later 235 in it. I'm missing the spring that opens and closes the heat riser valve on the exhaust manifold. So the question-is the vavle closed(no carb heat) with the weight rotated towards the block or away from the block?

With the flat spot on the weight parallel to the ground (approximately) is heat on. As the spring warms/relaxes it allows it to tip towards the block (heat off).

Thanks, I could have taken the pipe off and looked, but I'm lazy.

If you need a replacement heat riser spring for your 235, Cl***ic Parts of America has one. Check out www.Cl***icParts.com or give them a call at 1-800-741-1678 and request a catalog. They have a lot of stuff for the 235.
