1. My roadster may be in need of a new disk and pressure plate. My local jobber came up with a "kit" for $240.00 but is not able to get individual pieces. Just curious what other sources you guys have used for clutch parts. 2. My disk may just be wet with oil, I have a (I think) rear main leak or it may be the ****** leaking out the front due to fluid transfer from the rear end. Is there any way to dry it off or am I looking at replacement? Thanks.
Any good brand of spray on Brake cleaner will clean off the oil. I always go direct to a rebuilder for Brake/Clutch parts. Doing the exchange on vintage parts opens the door for wrong parts and then the correct one is gone also. The Wizzard
1. Got a 9" pressure plate from the local NAPA, but don't remember any PN's. Don't think it was too expensive. I don't remember where the disk came from, but it is new too. Maybe Red's Headers? 2. Try brake cleaner on the old disk first. The material is very similar to brake shoe lining, maybe it would work.
$240 is way too much. Around $150-$200 too much. You can get new clutch disks and pressure plates for much less. Try Mac's Antique Auto Parts, C&G Auto Parts, Joblot, NAPA, etc. Some require core charges, some don't. Dunno what type of clutch houses you have locally, but they may stock these disks and pressure plates too. They are not that hard to find. Mike
I had the same problem too. I don't know what year your flattie is, but try these people, www.shoeboxford.com Go to the bottom of the page and call the contact number. I got the disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and release bearing and hub for 145 bucks, plus a 40 dollar core charge for the plate and disc. I wasn't able to find a damn thing at any of the local shops or parts stores, except for a bunch of idiots. I swear the hiring policy must be to find the biggest *****s, and hire them!!
