A buddy of mine has a 63 fairlane 4-door wagon, 260 & 3 on the tree. He wants to go with a 302 & C4. Anyone here know what will be involved with this swap? Will the crossmember work? Will the driveshaft length have to be changed?

I did this a few years ago in a '64 Fairlane. He should be able to use the existing cross-member. He'll need to get an automatic column (and gearbox since they're attached), or go with floor-shift. I bought pre-bent trans lines from one of the repop Mustang shops and everything looked neat & clean.

If my memory serves me correctly,On my 63,the 260 motor mount holes were narrower than the 302's holes.Simple fix was to weld a plate on top of the 260 mounts with wider spaced holes.

He's thinking floor shift so the column wont be a problem. Never thought about the mounts being different.

I had a 62 with that miserable 2 speed auto behind a 260, I found an early C-4 and it was a bolt in but recall having to tweak the kick down and shifter rod .
