found it on CL in Minneapolis, I know I'll get yelled for posting this, but wanted HAMBERS to have the info. Too far for me to go get it. $300
I thought I'd get in trouble for posting the link... here it is though. Wish I was closer to it... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/2560131980.html
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/2560131980.html Minneapolis CL search 1951 Mercury. Jeez how hard was that? I just used that internet thingey.( on computers now!)
Virgil.... that is what I thought... I tried to give the info without the link... Hope someone gets it.
Looks like the doors and maybe the quarters are tucked inside the car. That's an insane deal for $300, I'd almost consider a 1000 mile road trip for that one.
OK...here is a question...how come Merc rocker panels are always gone, but Merc trunklids are always perfect??? Even this car had a damn near cherry trunklid. WTF?? Smokin deal for 300 by the way. -Abone.
Lotta guys would pay $100 for the hood, for the bumper, and more for the front window trim if it's not pitted. Looks like a very interesting parts car.
What an incredibly sweet deal. Hell, if the door is straight, it's worth $300! The car looks to be very saveable. I hope it gets built. So much for the naysayers that claim it's way too expensive to find a project!
I found one that looked better than that locally - in the you-pull yard. It probably brought $350, $400 over the scale going in - no motor or trans in it, but it had more floor left than that car. Of course I grabbed the roof, doors, and quarters off it, because once they roll in, the only way they leave is by the piece until what's left is mashed down to about 12 inches tall. Fenders were rotty in the lower part and the inner hood was gone, and the grille surround rotted and gone, so I didn't take any of that.
You guy's would **** if you saw what my old neighbor did with one way nicer and more complete than that. I'll give you a hint. He pushed the top in with a track loader, loaded it on a trailer with 3 other cars and thought he was really rolling in dough with his $900 for a day's work. That was over 5 years ago and it still makes me sick to think about it.
You should show him the one that's been on eBay the last couple weeks. Complete car but fresh out of the barn or field or wherever they found it, dirty, needs floors, not running... not sure what they want for it but the last time I looked it had been bid up to about $5000.
My understanding is that the link to an add thing is a cl***ifieds issue. I don't think that a link to an add as a heads up to a deal on the main board is a big problem. I could be wrong, the outside most that is going to happen is that it will get deleted if someone doesn't like it. The you can always appologize and promise not to do it again. One thing to remember is that although the mods are not going to take any **** from you and well they shouldn't they serve us well and deserve every bit of our repsect, they are not ***holes. They are good level headed folks. Edit: I just checked it out from the pics it certainly looks like good custom fodder to me and definately 300 dollars worth of car.
Man what I wouldnt give for a deal like that around here! Thats a mint car compared to the **** I end up saving!!
I'm changing my stance, that could be a really solid builder. Look at the tail pan, they all rust out there and that one looks great. I wonder if that car is from the West, I'd think a MN car would be pretty rusted sitting outside.
