Hey all I've been without a hot rod for almost 10 years now. Money is so tight I had no choice. If I was to have another hot rod it would have to be a gl*** bodied car. I got a real good deal on a project so it appears I'm building a hot rod. I need some help identifying who made the body (Manufacturer). Its a gl*** 34 Ford Sedan. I was told the body was also outlaw. It has Outlaw Performance fenders all the way around. But i am having a slight problem figuring out who made the body. Reason is i had a buddy come by today and he tells me that Outlaw didn't make a crank out windshield or a working cowl vent. I cant find any markings on it and was wondering if any of you fine people would know who the manufacturer would be? It has stock looking br*** door hinges its chopped 2.5 inches the doors are hinged and latched the windows are all in and it appears to have come that way. It was purchased in 87 & been sitting for years. The previous owner wasn't a very good builder & I don't know where he was headed with it but I know where I'm headed with it. Down the road as traditional as possible. I did a search & couldn't find anything. I hope this thread doesn't get closed & I hope the fact that it's not a real steel car get anyone all worked up. I truly can't afford anything steel. Thanks for any & all help. BIG-JIM And inside
I was 'out of it' for 10 years but didn't get going again with a '34. I don't think anybody will get worked up depending on your definition of 'traditional'. WELLLL, maybe about those seats..... Superior Gl*** Works? good for a bump anyways
Most, if not all bodies come with a 'Statement of Origin'. This used to ***le and register the car. Check the paperwork you got with it. If nothing is there, call the guy who sold the project.
I think he implied that a lot of the stuff that the p/o put on the car isn't going to be on it when it's done LowKat. I don't have a clue as to who built the body Big-Jim but it looks like a good start on a hot rod if you do it right. Superior mostly has been into Chevys and not done much with Fords as far as I know. There were a lot of outfits building gl*** bodys in the 70's, 80's and 90's that built some interesting bodies but aren't around anymore. I'd check on the inside, floor boards and bottom side of the floor for something gl***ed in that might Id the body. I see Gibbons does/did a chopped 33/34 sedan body http://www.gibbonfibergl***.net/33-34_Tudor_Sedan.html
Thanx for the help guy's. Yes the seats are going. Any takers? The keystones are going too. He was headed more street rod where I'm low bucking it with a traditional flavor. I'd probably get banned if I told you what he has in it for a motor & trans. The man p***ed away & don't want to speak ill of the dead so I will keep my mouth shut on that subject. But it wouldn't have been my first choice...or tenth. Little different on the color scheme. I'm thinking suede royal blue body & fenders with cream steelies and firewall. Maybe I'll post on the photo shop thread with a better picture of it. My second choice is the same thing only with a Burgundy color. For cost purposes it will most likely have a small block Chevy in it only because I have one in the ba*****t. Maybe a batwing air cleaner. I like the body because (To the untrained eye) it looks stock other then the chopped roof. With it's 3 door hinges not 2. Steel running boards with rubber mats bonded to them. Working cowl vent, & crank out windshield. The tail lights 39 ford with blue dots...too cliche. I'm thinking Harley tombstone lights. Those are in my ba*****t as well but that's not set in stone..Ha get it? Set in stone... I have a ba*****t chuck full of **** (as the wife calls it). Thanks again.
The guy I got it from said it was an outlaw body. Thing is; outlaw sells stage three ch***is with numbers & that's how you get it registered. I'm going to call them & see if they can tell me more about this car. My buddy tells me they can tell me if it was sold as a roller or a complete package. Their website does not list a 34 ford tudor as a body they offer but maybe they did way back in 87 when this was purchased. The guy that sold it to me had a VIN verification done so all I need to do is go to the DMV & shell out some $$ and I'm good to go.
Got a chance today to really get in there to take a look & I found no tag or anything that would indicate who the manufacturer is. Next is to look under it. Seems to be a pretty well made body though. Not that it really matters who built it. But it would be nice to know.
I installed the outside door handles today & to my surprise; to open the door you have to turn the handle up! It should turn down to open. The mechanisms look like they are installed correctly . Everything lines up on the body. Can these mechanisms be taken apart & reversed? Figured I'd ask before I go rippin it apart in the morning. That will be annoying as hell if it can;t be changed. Had a buddy install his storm door on his house reversed & we bust his balls to this day & it happened 8 years ago. In fact the first thing the wife said was "Did Mike install these doors?"
I found out the body is a VWT body out of wolcott CT just a stones throw from where I live...Go figure. I even went to school with the makers niece. Man it's a small world! The molds were all sold to outlaw performance a long time ago.
I had a friend that installed his door handles that way. He said it was to prevent somebody from breaking into the car.
Looks like a great start. Check the front crossmember instalation real well before you do anything with the ch***is.
Will the complete ***emblies work in the opposite doors. Maybe they are installed on the wrong sides? You in bristol...I live a little more east in Willimantic. Why can't I find deals like this?
It's an outlaw ch***is so I was figuring everything was professionally done. What should I look for? Was there a design flaw or something?
