I sold the 28 delivery about 2 weeks ago to a guy in colorado. He had to have it, and I could use the money. But I have contracted with him to do some finish work on the 28 delivery. So now I will be building it for someone else. I will continue to post any build pics of the delivery, as long as it is in my shop. Thanks for following along with my build of it. On another note. I have purchased a 27 chevy 2 door sedan along with a nice 67 nova 283, nova power glide, nova steering column, and a mercury monarch 9 iinch. So I will be doing a (duplicate delivery) of the 28 in a 27 style full fendered with a few minor changes of my original design. I will post up a new thread. and pic's of the car when I get started on it. Thanks...John Wish me luck.
The luck has been favoring me on my 27 chevy project, but I did promise the new owner of the 28 delivery project that this winter I would start on some of the finishing touches. I spent the last few day tearing the 28 down so I can finish up the frame and get it ready for cleanup, and powder coating. Man these bodys get a little heavier with a steel structure after I get the frame out of my way I will start on finishing up of the lower portion of the body filler panels. When the frame comes back I will mount the suspension, engine, brake lines, and exhaust. hopefully by then the body will be ready to go back on. He would like to drive this car on a trailor by mid summer. I wont be doing any body work or paint, unless something in the plans change. I think the hardest job for my small shop is storing all the parts.
Well I got the frame back from the powdercoater. I went with a 60 percent shine on the black finish, more of a satin finish. This way it will hide some of the flaws in the metal work.
Spent the weekend running brake lines, residual, and proportioning valves on the 28. got most of it done except securing to the frame, gotta save some for later. So I started the mock up of the radiator to the 28 shell This will have an electric fan cuz of lack of space, and I decided to use a short chopped aluminum radiator, it's 22 1/2 inch tall 32 ford style, and it fit the 28 chevy shell perfectly. I dont like attaching to or through the fins of the radiator so I build shrouds that let me unbolt the fan if needed.
Finished up the brake lines, mounted the shifter, and put the trim rings and caps on to see how they will look. I LIKE IT.
I got to thinking how many projects I have in the works and decided that breaking my friends backs everytime I needed help lifting a body off a ch***is was not a good idea. Sitting around drinking a beer and telling lies would be time better spent. So I sold a set of new mag wheels and tires that I was saving for a future project, and got enough cash to buy a gantry crane, and then bought a hoist to go with it. I should of done this a long time ago. Anyway I started finishing up the bottom of the 28 chevy so I can paint and undercoat it, and get it back on the ch***is.
Holy ****, I have somehow missed all of your recent progress-looking great! The frame & powder coat really came out nice. You will love the gantry. I was lucky enough to get one for free. A tile shop went out of business near our shop, & put out their gantry in the garbage. I had to modify it's size a bit to fit around a car ch***is, & bought 2 lift motors for it. It has been the BEST thing ever. We have gotten a ton of use out of that, wouldn't want to be without it. Keep up the good work, anxious to see things progress! Dan
Well I finished up all the welding on the underside of the 28, and got the seal coat, and rust inhibitor brushed on. Then moved on to the body seam seal. Now that it's good and dry , maybe this weekend spray on the undercoating.
Most of this ***embly stuff is boring, but I finished up the undercoating of the body and moved on to the install of the new 15 gallon fuel tank form tanks. It's not only 2 inches taller but also a little wider front to back this caused a little problem with my new straps, and the holes for bolting them on. I used the bolts from the old straps this worked out fine, but I had to build brackets off the rear cross section to make new bolt holes for mounting the tank. I am not complaining, at least it's got 5 more gallons of fuel for cruising.
So, WHEN are we going cruising...??? I'm heading to Moab at the end of the month...will your Chebby be done in time to go "cruising" with us...??? R-
I am gonna try to mount the body, and pre wire the dash guages, so I thought some paint might be needed. (I think I will reshoot the dash ) Any way I also got the rubber for the body mount it's 3/16th thick 2 inches wide by 8 feet long ,and will run the body length on top of the frame rails. had to make a punch for the body mount holes.
I have been jacking around with a couple of other projects, but now am back on the 28 AGAIN. I repainted the dash, installed the guages, and prewired them. then painted the rear wheel wells and installed the body for the final time. (I hope) I decided to get the engine in order so all the goodies are being installed and in the next few days I am going to wire the whole car hopefully. I also aquired in the last few days another early 64 to 68 283 engine with a turbo 400. The engine had been rebuilt awhile ago and the quality looks good. The ****** has a shift kit installed and hits pretty hard going through the gears. It was in an old 65 chevy show truck that had been abused in the last few years. it might end up in my 27 chevy project and the 67 nova engine and trans in the 27 now might have to go to another home.
I see that you have been busy..they both look great..gives me some will power to get the one I have done..I just installed the engine and ******...the sub-floor next then some brake work..steering stuff...and driveline..oh boy..$$$$$$
Well it's been awhile, the HAMB drags are over and now it's back to business on a couple of cars, and the 28 chevy is one of them. The wiring is ran and all the guages, and ignition are working, so it was time to wake up this sleeping small block from it's 6 year slumber. I had been keeping it oiled, and spun it over ever so often, so I was confident in it's coming back to life, and did it ever. It fired right up and even lit the tires a little when I pulled it out of the garage. I decided it was time for a test ride and what a hooot. Now I remember why I like to drive these old cars and not just build them. The car went straight down the road and and handled extremely well, the brakes are power and man they are great. (Can ya tell I am jazzed up.) I decided it was time to install the rear fenders again, and line up the tail lights I had picked for this car. They are 38 dodge truck units I think they fit the build, mounted on the fenders. Oh btw open pipes, pull cable, for a throttle, can't get any better than this. John

Really love the dash work, speedo in front and gauge pod to the middle. brilliant, love it! So happy to hear the sbc fired up and the car handled as you hoped.Thanx for bringing a vintage Chevy back to a new life. ~sololobo~
John, It looks great! I like your idea for tail lights- the stock ones are gawd-awful expensive... which is why I've been picking up '27-'28 Chevrolet cowl lights whenever I can
I read all of the posts and didn't see the question/answer. I may have missed it. Any plans of continuing the upper body moulding that starts at the front of the hood and ends at the rear of the side doors? Maybe continue the moulding a short way and gradually end it partway down the quarter. I'm in no way putting your build down but it looks odd with the moulding ending at the door edge. Nice build........Mike
The trim piece you are referring to was made from aluminum and it was used to cap the upper body and lower body where the two were nailed together into the wood structure. Sadly it was the only piece missing, but I am going to duplicate it with round tubing cut in half and tacked into place. It will be on there. Good eye. Thanks... John
I'll swear by it you were having fun no matter what the ET Here are a few more mock up pics of this build. I am trying to get all the parts to line up again before body and paint. Plus I get to hotrod it a little bit in the process. Oh I meant drive it.
Awwwwwwwww, in order to have a hot rod, you need to take off all the fenders and put the windows you filled in back in...it'll look better and ride better...oh, and take the hubcaps off, that alone will make it faster...!!! And WHY would you talk of painting it...your last one wasn't... R-
