I would like to see some of your model a vickys. I've got a 1930 vicky leatherback and I need some inspiration, its a pretty complete car aside from the hood ,motor, and tranny( pics in my album).
Model A Vickys are not as commonly seen as hotrods. I'm going to speculate on a few reasons why... First of all, the body structure is mostly made of wood with the outter sheet metal nailed to it. Usually not the most desirable body type for someone trying to build for speed. Secondly, The Victoria is a fairly rare body style to the Restorer crowd, but in the hot rod world, it's another early 30s Ford. I would think that in this rare case, you could probably get more money from a Restorer on a Vicky in the condition of yours than you could from a hot rodder. Usually this is the other way around with Tudors and coupes. A hot rodder will almost always pay more for a nice tudor or coupe body. You may consider putting an ad for that Victoria up on the Ford barn. You may get $4000 - $5000 for it if almost all the parts are there, like the window garnish moldings, windshield frame, rear valance pan hanging down below the body and between the two rear fenders, etc. Then with that $4000 - $5000 you could almost buy a running barn fresh coupe, which may make a more "desirable" hotrod.
I would've bought a coupe but, happened upon this. Only had it a few months. I plan on this winter, lowering it about 3", and putting a little bigger tire in the back. I usually don't keep cars long so, that's as far as my vision goes.
Wow walls that's a nice car. Elrod- I realize the oddity of the car and I've had coupes and sedans but the fact that you don't see them is part of my reason for this build, thanks for for the advice though. I do appriciate it
Well then, like the others said, Check out DRuss' build. It's one sweet hotrod Vicky. He chopped it a little and put a 32 header and windshield on it. Here is a thread about it. I think there might be another thread that is much longer.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177832&highlight=druss+vicky&showall=1
Very nice Walls. I've commented on your car before. There is one on eBay that is in worse shape than yours that is already at $7600 with over 4 days left of the auction. You may want to watch this link to get an idea of what your vicky might be worth at auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/130566891523
Take a look at the Vicky group. It is not too active, but the members are THE Vicky guys: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=70 Phil
Built this as a tribute to the early Vickies of Larry Teeter and the Samsol Brothers. Teeter was the NHRA C/G champion 1961 and 1962 with an injected 301. They ran '32's in the very early Gas classes. I like the shorter wheelbase of the '31 and the W motors. Terry
Just joined the Vicky group. You're right not much action but, a good list of fellow owners. Every time I see one of these for sale and see what they sell for, I feel like I stole this one. Anyway, just to back up what you were saying, I was just at Das Awkscht Fest a couple weeks ago, which is a some what local to me large antique car show. Tons of Model A's but not one Vicky. Just don't see them alot, except on the internets.
I had a rough '32 Vicky a few years ago, and wouldn't mind having another or an A Vicky with a steel back.
DRuss that is a cool car. One of my favorite A Vickys was at the CheaterRama in Milwaukee WI yesterday. I did not get a good pic of it.
