CAR looks great. I had a mostly original 210 about 10 or so years ago with the same color combo. nice car.
As said by others - Period Correct! Would not have been out of place in '60-'63 in my area. 'Understated' is the best description; only the wheels and traction bars give a hint of what is going on.
Very nice looking ride....All we can complain about is the shifter...that ought to tell you something!
Getting some very good pm'ed suggestions, this place is freaking awesome. Apparently the Desert Cooler radiators don't cool as well as the originals! Seems like a Griffin with a 6 blade fan will get things done. I'm only concerned about a stock appearance, and being able to use the original type hoses, and clamps. I'll keep you posted.
I remember when that car was for sale and it sold quick, I was a lil' late but glad you got it and did exactly what I would have. I have the sister to that car with the same paint which is a rare combination, however, mine is not that far along, congratulations on the buy and the upgrades.
Period correct with the huge exhaust and the 5 speed? yes its a very nice car, but period correct it is not. should have a T10 or a Muncie 3 speed in it. Dont get me wrong, its way cool, and im sure its a frickin blast to drive...
Yeah man looks nice. All you need now is to install a straight axle and radius the wheelwells and your there.
Be Cool and Griffin both have aluminum radiators that look OEM including a black finish. Of course, searching both of there sites just now didn't provide links to those products. However, I've read article about them in major magazines.
period correct or more performance...in my book, hot rods were all about performance correct. all i know is that richmonds with gears like 3.73's make a 55 jump.
I wasn't going for a total 'period correct' ride, just something that looked like what I would have built in HS in '65. I struggled over the Muncie vs. Richmond thing, and talked to owners of both before I went with the 5 speed, and I'm glad I did. One of the nicest transmissions I've ever had. Crisp, and snicks into gear, and the o/d on the highway is awesome. I drive it almost daily now. Cut the round style Hurst yesterday, and will weld it to the base and get it chromed next week. I'm going to shorten the square style Hurst about 3", because I like that too. I'll send updated photos when its done.
That is one sweet, sanitary little ride there. I lived with my grandmother for a while in 1984 and the little old lady who was her neighbor had a light blue 55 210 tudor that she was willing to sell to me for $2500.....low mileage, and almost perfect except for the faded paint. I couldn't come up with the cash though and it got away. But wow....your car is exactly how I would've built it, if I'd had the money.
I love your attention to detail in the engine bay. With a car done this way, I'll spend as much time looking at the engine bay as I will looking at the body and interior.
Sweet ride. Drive it and enjoy it. I ran a Griffin radiator in my 55 car and my 57 pu. Had good luck with them. Later, ****
UPDATE, Sorry this is an old topic, but thought I'd let you know how it turned out. It started easily, and ran cool on the highway, but overheated in regular traffic. Checked everything and couldn't figure it out until Baron drove it. He just said, 'it doesn't drive like a hot 327 w/ 2 fours, let me take it home for a few nights'. Turns out, Chevy supplied different dampers with different timing marks. Baron didn't use a timing light, but dialed it in by hand. Runs great, and doesn't overheat in stop and go traffic. Thanks Baron!!!
Yep 1969ish, sbc balancer's went from having the timing mark in line with keyway to one offset about 8 deg. Affirmative Not my favorite color combo on a 210, but I still really like it, actually I would love to own this 55. A friend of mine had a 55 Chev. 210, light gray primer with mag. Americans.
Nice car....have owned about a dozen 55s over the years. I would personally leave the shifter as is. This is exactly as we did it around here back in the 60s....Old school cool
