Howdy ya'll! Been lurkin awhile and figgered I'd jump on in. Feel like the odd man out, I been heavily immersed in the rockcrawlin' world for a number of years where I've been fabrcating and breaking stuff on a regular basis. Grew up in the roddin' world, son of the old fart that used to write Ford Folio in Truckin' back in the day. My first ride was '55 F100 at 11 and drove a slammed '62 Falcon Ranchero and an ulgy *** open piped flathead '51 Merc I sectioned and roadsterized all thru HS. After dabbling with rally cars and bikes and always rockcrawlin' I decided I really want a nasty little bucket style rod, so I dug around in the yard and all I could come up with was a '47 Willys CJ-2a body. Out comes the sawzall, cut out the floor for a channel job, chopped the windshield frame, pinched the grill and walaaaaa...nasty little hillbilly bucket. Now I'm on a mission; build a stinker out of free and cast off 4x4 parts, Toyota 8inch 4:10 detroit locked rear and Toyota steering box, free old Chevy V-8 out of a Landcruiser, doorstop Powerglide from a '56 more door, 6-lug steelies offa Heep Waggin' Ear and slight progress is being made. Goal is to have it runnin' from the law by mid summer. Will post pics for ya'll to heckle later on. But for now, my daily driver and an example of my fabbin'....

  2. Welcome!!!!!. I knew us Texans* would take over the HAMB...the plan is going so perfectly.........

*Void where prohibited. I can call myslef that now because I bought a house here. Others may dispute that though.

  3. HAMB TEXAS!!! The end of the world is near...

    Welcome...

  4. Dang!

    That's a rawk crawlin' Ess-Oh-Bee!

We need more stuff like this on the HAMB... maybe it'll drown out all the Betty PAge wanna-bees that show up here wanting to join car clubs with their FOUR DOORS.

Show us some pics of your bucket (as long as it is 'traditionally styled and not a 4x4).

    Sam.

    Welcome!
Your story sounds just like mine. Been wheeling a 84 toy and a samurai for the last 12 years. Sold em and then got my 59 ford.
Any pics of your rides besides the sweet toy (Sorry 4x4's is still in my blood.)

    and one for size refernce...

thus the beginnings of my Hellbilly Hot Rod, heckle away.
Gonna have an open engine bay with zoomies pokin' up and the block up at a g***er angle on a torque plate. Gotta a single hirise Edelbrock right now but pushin' fer a tunnel ram. Yeeeehaw!

I was about to say, great, another Texan. I'm ready to move. But then I saw that Willys. Totally rocking idea. Not everyday you see something done like that. Welcome aboard Crow.
And no Kustom55 you aren't a Texan yet. Your application hasn't been approved by the board as of yet.

  9. Hmmmmmm, a Texas **********, which one of you is pivot man? Sorry, a Jeep, although old enough in age is still just a Jeep thing I dont care to understand. And it definately is not a hotrod.

I do like the effort involved in Rockcrawlers though, just not here.

I think as long as it gets primered black and has red rims and wide whites... maybe an iron cross on the hood... he'll be alright.

How about a little imagination and sense of humor, Nortenos.

The Toy is my crawler. The Heep is going to be a rod. It will actually sit lower than it is in the pics, run a straight axle up front and be built by traditional standards just using a non-traditional tub, because it's what I had. I'll post up as I go(maybe) and then be the judge, or maybe as I blow by your '32s.

My dad told me how in the late forties when they started building rods and modifieds that they'd just use what their dad's had tossed behind the barn, mostly old A's and T's. I'm a hillbilly. I had a forties Jeep tossed behind my barn so it's what I'll use.

Hahaha Sam, I love it! callin' out the cops. No flat black, no red rims, what you see is what you'll get, I like it's patina.

  17. I always liked the looks of those Jeeps... I used to want to build one as a drag car...

Move the front axle up a bit and you'll be stylin... maybe go with chrome reverse wheels and wide white slicks out back... primer it olive drab... star on the hood...

I have thought many a time of building a g***er-styled Willys Jeep. Good to see someone thinking outside the box. We can't all drive piss-yellow '32 Fords! Welcome & I can't wait to see it mobile!

Welcome to the board. I like the Willys hot rod. Using the Jeep tub is creative. Some people aren't quite open minded about trying new things for rods. The guys back in the early days of rodding were doing the same thing, using whatever was available to build something fast. Keep us posted on your progress.

  25. I have had my eye on an ol willy's wagon thinking of doing the same type of treatment. Dare to be different, atleast its not another belly****on car.

Gonna keep the 4x4 drivetrain? When everyone else has to park theirs for the weather you can still be out cruizin around.

I always thought an early Jeepster would make a fun hotrod, just too far down my list for me to ever get real about. What I think would be even more fun is a rock crawler made from a nice 29 rpu.
When I left Alaska I had to abandon my 59 Edsel 4x4 wagon project that hadn't got past the parts gathering stage.
