I have a 1961 Mr Softee Truck.. sanding to bare metall I probly will not get to paint it till next year..

So I found Sherwin Williams White primer with rust protecttion.. $17.80 quart

It went on perfect . Looks great..

I just got back from my body shop and he not sure if his urethane paint will go on it..

I called Sherwin Williams and they could not tell me...!

Did any one ever use a oil base paint and later painted with a urethane paint? and had no problems .. Thanks for letting me know....

Don't mix manufacturer products, use the recommended top coat for whatever primer you used. What primer did you use that is oil based?

I would buy 3 onces of paint.Paint a spot and see what it does.I would be afraid. You will know what it will do in minutes.

the top coat is probably gonna wrinkle the oil based primer. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

You can always use Enamel for the top coat. A little tricky to spray if you've never done it before. I'm also wondering if you could shoot a sealer over the top of your primer like the one sold by HOK ???

The only possibility would be to use water based primer.

Thanks for the advise ... I decided to go to the body shop and he sprayed the paint he will use its base white .. then he will clear it..

He loaded it up really gfood and NO WRINKLING or lift.. He told me that if it sands ( and it does) it shold not be a problem

    Thanks for the advise...

  9. I used a ton of rustoleum primer on my truck. Everyone said nothing would ever stick to it and that I needed to take it off. Alkyd enamel DOES stick to it (waiver: this is only my experience, take it with a grain of salt), but it wasn't my first choice for materials.

  10. Mixing brands/paint types is like starting out the evening with scotch and switching to red wine at some point, your results may vary.

Some products you can mix from manufacturer to manufacturer, or one type and another. I have no idea whether what you want to do will be ok, my guess is that it's a bad plan. I wouldn't just spend a little more up front and avoid the risk of ending up with a mess later.
