In this case, it's the thing with tires! Last night on the way to the campground we're staying at, suddenly the highway started to whine, and the roadster pulled slightly to the left. It was 10 pm, full dark, on a hill, blind curve. I was going slow so as to not hit whatever deer was going to jump out in front of the '36, and a farmhouse on the right. Mercury vapor light on, so I idled in on a flat left front tire. The wouldn't come to the door, but the neighbors weren't afraid, and let me use their phone to call my Dad (no cell phone service, so there goes my rationale for not carrying a spare or tools!) and he came and rescued me. This morning, a new 5.00x16 motorsickle tube got me going. The old (new) tube had a puncture in the tread side, and when it went flat, pulled the stem thru the rim tearing it. It's all better now, although I still don't know how I'd carry a spare, two different bolt patterns, wildly different tire sizes, and no place for one anyway!
Yup! I felt sort of guilty, calling my 87 year old Dad to come out and rescue me, but it makes him feel good to know I still need him! Brian
Glad it was the tyre that gave you problems and not the other. I rarely carry a spare as well and it gets me in trouble.
Nice car,why not build you a small matching trailer to haul your spares, tools and stuff in. Maybe something on the lines of a motorcycle trailer.
Ain't Dad's great!!! Feel very blessed that your 87 old Dad came actually drive anywhere to help out. If he is like my Dad was, I'm sure he was eager to ***ist.
I do feel blessed, but Goddamm, his driving is pretty scary after dark! I was actually worried about him driving home, and called a couple times to check and make sure he got back in one piece! I don't think he can see very well after dark.
JFWIW most automotive inner tubes have a inside and an outside . Look carefully at the tube before installation to insure the stem is on the correct side of the wheel so the valve stem isnt ****ed or twisted in the wheels valve stem opening . They tend to blow out later if not centered correctly . Motorcycle tube stems are mostly designed for center of the wheel openings .
A Mullins is the ticket for carrying lots of stuff in style. They tow like a dream and even back up pretty well if you extend the hitch by a couple of feet which gives you room for an auxliary trunk or cooler mount to carry quick need tools or quick need beverages right up front and handy. I don't know what they are sold for these days in box/lid/fenders form but that's what I would look for.
What about carrying extra tubes, tire s****s and a hand pump? It may sound silly but it wouldn't take long at all to swap out a tube. You may want to look into that. We live and learn. Glad nothing happened to you or the car. ******Knuckles
damn bryan. that ***le would make a real cool t-shirt design. i'm serious! oh, and god bless your dad. mine is 76 and he is still my hot rod buddy.
