I have two engines I went to a Studebaker Forum but couldn't figure it out two numbers on the engine engine #1 518448 4 C 6 22 engine#2 513448 2 (may be 518448 2) c 5 16 any help would be appreciated
If they are V8s, the number you need is stamped on top just to the drivers side of the oil fill tube on the gasket surface of the valley pan. Right under the copper oil line. The codes are on the SDC forum. It will tell you what year and what size the motor is. This is a 58 259.
Flathead 6 I found two other numbers twords the front of the engine #1 IR40355 (or 1R40355) #2 IR45339 (or 1R45339)
I found this online 1R-001 1949/1953 2R series Commercial 170" 1R-149,001 1954 3R Series Commercial 170" not sure what to make of it
I think the numbers on that web page are showing the first serial number used for each year, if you look further down it shows 441,001 1949 Champion (8G) 170" 521,001 1950 Champion (9G) 170" My guess is that you have an engine from a pickup (commercial) since it is a 1R number. and I guess it's from around 1949-1950, but the listing for each year for the commercial engines is incomplete. Since they made about 149,000 engines between 49 and 53, yours are probably from 1950, interpolating when they would have made engines with serial numbers around 40,000. Also, that other web page I found showed the casting number you give as being used for 1947-1950.
thanks Squirrel I think your right looks like it gets about 85 hp. I was thinking about trying to fit in to a 1947 Crosley
85? Nah, we got 234 out of ours: Of course that might have had something to do with the turbocharger...
You kinda have to make it... Buick Turbo Regal intake, and custom plenum from Digger Dave Molnar. The engine currently resides in another HAMBer's 3-wheeler called "The Tribaker." http://turbostude.com/Tribaker/
