If this the 'Scene of a Thrash' or What? Got back from my first trip to the Bonneville Salt flats about a week ago. Have been working so hard for the last 6 weeks just to get there, that I just put it all down last week. I needed a serious "Time Out" from working on hotrods, was just plain burnt out - with a capital damn 'B'. My wife took this picture the Saturday before we left for Bonneville - I'm a part of the 'FlatCad Racing Team'. This picture just sums up what my home-shop looked like at the final hours -- too funny or what? How the hell we ever got from here to the salt flats in a couple days . . . the Gods were with us my friends! Recap . . . a) We couldn't get the big blown/gas flathead Cadillac done. b) At the 11th hour we decided to throw in a nice running SBC motor that one of our team members had. It is a well-built 350, iron heads, Duntov 30/30 cam, makes probably 350 or so HP. c) The engine arrives on Friday (4 days before we're supposed to leave) - time to do whatever it takes to put it in, plumb it, make exhaust for it, make clutch linkage, make motor mounts, re-work the trans mount, etc . . . and see if we can make Bonneville with something -- to test the car out, shake our crew down, get some licenses, etc.. Here is the picture . . . how many engines/blocks can you count? I've never seen my shop in such a disarray - ever . . . this picture defines 'Bonneville Thrash' for me
It was great to see Buddy out on the salt. I got to meet him at a club (Road Runners) meeting a few months ago. The thrash is all part of Bonneville. We were thrashing at Bonneville too. : - ) By weslake at 2011-08-28[/IMG]
Thanks Buddy. I was delighted to run into you even for a few seconds. But it made my Bonneville when i saw your car in line to run. I've been following your build and was a bit worried that you might not have it together in time. Congrats on your runs. 153+ ain't hanging around!
There nothing wrong looking with your shop Dale - to me it looks like paradise hahaha !! I was wondering how you guys made out with the blown Cad build. Bummer ya'all missed out - ah well, NEXT YEAR ! Rat
Not only there at home but you guys were thrashin all week........... sorry I didn't get much time to talk but you guys were too busy, enjoyed meeting ya though......
Where else can you thrash before Bonneville, thrash all week at Bonneville, fry your *** in the sun, break parts, have a long drive home and tell everyone you had a fantastic time and are looking forward to next year?
That sounds like some of my thrashes before cross country road trips in years past. Getting a chance to sort the ch***is out and get the drivers licensed is great though.
Ahhh, the lifestyle of going fast. Dontcha just love it ? Wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything and could not possibly explain why we do it. Great stuff, thank you Dale, Cleveland OH
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! Yes - there is a 302 block behind the fertilizer sprayer . . . don't know if you saw the 'bore' in the picture, but that is the really hidden one!
My wife rarely gets on me about the shop - accept when it is dirty and needs a thorough enema to clean it up. (tonight's job as it so happens). As a matter of fact, I would not have that car lift if it wasn't for her. One day she said "I think you should get a lift, I think it is dangerous to be working under cars with jack-stands, laying on the floor, etc". Now do I have the best wife or what? Once I heard that, I got my **** moving on getting a lift! Strike when the iron is hot fellas!
