Yes, the windshields in Crown Victoria's and the Convertibles are about 2" shorter than the Wagons and Sedans, both '55 and '56.
Brewsir got it correct ! go get a used windshield in any condition ,cut the top off with a diamond wheel or go to lowes and get a dremell diamond roto zip tip and cut the top off they have several vendors . if it ain't cracked it will be ...but you will at least have a gauge to work from.
Not to be arguementive, have you ever chopped a 56? You do not widen the roof on a 56 (or some other vehicals with wrap around gl*** as well). I've chopped several, have windshields in them all and the only time I welded on a roof of one was to un-widen one someone else had chopped so I could fit a windshield. True the windshield gets narrower as it goes up but it also gets narrower as it goes forward from the piller. as you lean the gl*** back it makes up for the gain in width.
Couldnt have said it better . never widen the roof on a wrap around type windsheild cut the top cut the sides at a wedge lay it back good to go but it does get a little crazy right at around a 5" chop thou.
not the same, theres a thread on a 57 chop gone wrong here on the hamb. you need the windshield opening that matches the windshield or its not gonna work.
Lexan can be molded but as Lexan absorbs moisture when heated, and bubbles, it would take some experimenting to get it right, even if you had a mold that was perfect.(oven size and temp) Also it would scratch like hell and I don't believe it would be street legal in any state.
WOW and I thought I have heard it all. I get a kick out of a couple of guys on here yacking away and don't know what they are talking about. They heard from a friend of a friend (can't seem to remember his name) who once did it and now they are a expert. LOL, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last night. LOL.
