Gonna do a segment on Speed Scene Live (http://speedscenelive.com/ ) next week on "Your First Hot Rod" (Tuesday after Labor day) Would like some pics and descriptions of your cars for the show. If interested, please post them here or on Face book on the G.A.A.S. page. Thanks
Well I think technically this would be considered my "first true hot rod"..... When completed to look like this....our Uncle Ray's 1955 AMBR Winner
This is mine. Put together and been in the family about 20 years and still running like a top. Color pic at the Day of the Drags at Little River in Temple, Tx and the B& W is blastin down the 101 on the way to Paso Robles one year.
El Jefe 1930 Ford Roadster, ANDEREGG TRIBUTE uncles AMBR winner in the days gone by. Got the pics...Thanks.
' 40 coupe with a later Ford flattie and a '39 ******--blew the flatty and sold the car for nothing. Thought I'd just go get another one---I was 16. Four '40s later and still no coupe.
1927 T rpu - real crude but fun ( way before the whole rr bull ) no digital pictures. Only 2 pictures I know of and they boyh ****
Car was a true "barn find" pulled out from the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania. Originally the car was a 4 door touring car that was cut down sometime in the 1960's (we believe) into the two door you see here. The car was found as an unfinished hot rod/drag car project. Today it is a friendly street cruiser done up as if it would of actually been finished like it was supposed to back in the day.
Mine was a '57 Nomad I found in 1973 sitting at a gas station in Torrance, Calif. 327, powerglide (that blew up a little after I rebuilt the engine). Painted, chromed and upholstered it. Took my ex to the hospital in it who gave birth to our son and brouught him home in it. That was a very special day........Father's Day....June 15th. I had just come home from the L.A. Roadster show and swap meet. Traded it for a very nice '55 Hardtop.
I still own my first "hot rod". I picked up my (now) wife from high school in it.... It's the car I am redoing right now. This is from the mid 80s, when I was running around with a 440....
This is my 30 Model A coupe. I bought it in the early 60's for $110.00 with a running flahead, and 39 Trans. It was in primer then. I painted the interior white tuck and roll black with vinyl spray. (the white would never have cleaned up). I also painted the exterior as seen in the pictures. I had to have the engine rebuilt, a place back then called San Bernardino Engine rebuilders did the deed for $350.00. This included a new clutch, throw out bearing and removal and installation.
First car I bought when I was 15 years old (in 1984) was a 53 Plymouth hardtop, but I sold it before I got it on the road. I pulled the engine from it...getting ready to stuff a small block in it and a guy I went to high school with just got obsessed with it and had to have it, so I sold it to him for twice what I paid for it....of course, I only paid $300 for it Then a 54 Chevy pickup with a 283, worked over heads and a powerglide transmission.....my brother borrowed it and totalled it one day after school. Then in 1986, the 54 Ford that I still have. And then about a dozen other rides, including a stock 29 Model A roadster, but the first REAL hotrod that I owned and built was this little bucket.... 23 T, Ford 302, banjo rear end with a driveline adapter, boxed Model A frame that had been used in a legit 50's hotrod...fun as a barrel of monkeys.
Well, she isn't traditional, but she's my first and only. Still adding and refining as cash allows. 305 SBC, 350 ******, 10bolt rearend. Wrecked and reborn.
I drive it daily, She hasn't been done a loing time, but she is my first hot rod. I love the looks the when the girls see that I'm 25 and not 50. lol
My first hot rod. Built by me with the help of friends and the tech archive here on the HAMB. Been on the road since August 1, 2008.
Thank you all for the pics. They will be on http://speedscenelive.com/ Tuesday Sept 6. The show starts at 6M PST and I come on at about 6:15PM PST. Click on the link above to watch. I will try and mention all that submitted pics by name. We will also list H.A.M.B. in the credits at the end of the show. If you miss the 6M showing (live), the rerun will be at about 7M.
