Be there Wednesday am to set up the Meadowlands S/R Hot Rod Repair Shop and the infamous "Moose Knuckle Lounge".
I get outta work at 5 on Friday... then it's about a half hour out there... wonder if it's worth going? I will be there on Sunday... hopefully with my Lincoln.
I'll be there on friday only,I've got a family reunion the rest of the weekend, and the restoration shop I work at is gonna have a few cars on display during the weekend,And were bringing this with us plus a few more. The customers father did it back in the early 60's and recently p***ed away and it's been sitting for the last 20 years. We got it unstuck and running today and have to go thru a few other items then get to the rest after the show......Rich
Wow Rabs, that Merc is sweet, as Jack said, good to see one unchopped. I hope the show is great as usual, take and share pix my friends. Happy Holiday to all. ~sololobo~
Is there a picture thread for all us poor saps who say every year they wanna check it out, but then never make it?
hey Rich. That's me. Show was great. Seems to be some confusion. To be clear: My dad didn't build this car in the early 60s, he would have been too young (13-14). He started messing with cars probably 66-67, as I recently came to learn, before he could even drive [legally ]. He came to own it probably about 1980 or so (my sister has to dig out the papers). I'm uncertain whether he bought it in this condition, or had it done this way. I have a stock hood and trunk, as well as the front and rear bumper guards. I have polaroids of what I think is the car fully stock, but maybe it was just a "this is what I am looking for" reference. oops. nope. took a look at the pic again has the same green fuzzy dice hanging from the rear-view as are to this day. Next month will be 20 years since he died. I inherited it (I was 23) and messed around and drove for few, before I got distracted with other things. I hadn't driven it for the past 15 or so years. Stored in a less than prime environment (especially the last couple years) Kanter's did a real nice job on her mechanicals. They really *love* cars over there (which is how it should be, right?). From a long 15yr slumber to cruising lead-east (and not overheating!) in a few short weeks. Cosmetic work at Kanter's is in our future. Awaiting my personalized QQs now. Jim J
Jim, Sorry about the history mix up,I was just going by the story Bill told us of your cars history. It attracted alot of people that were amazed to see that there are still some of these cars still hiding in garages or barns and some that were interested in buying it. We even had a kid come up on friday and said he saw on the flatbed coming to our shop and cut across a median to try to catch up to it to see where it was going til the state trooper stopped him for making an illegal u turn. Franks a little lost since it left our shop, but we'll find him another project to take away the pain. He had a great time when we let him take it for a lap around the hotel parking lot with a big smile on his face til Bill took the keys away from him for the rest of the weekend. We are glad that we were able to get it up and running and mechanically sound so you can start enjoying it again!!!!. Thanks Again, for giving us the opportunity to work on it and allowing us to display it at our booth at Lead East.......Rich
I also saw that merc on a flatbed on route 3 in clifton, (car was still dirty, looked like it just came out of the garage) i guess a few weeks ago now, I caught up to the tow truck driver and yelled to him, "is that car for sale?!?!" unfortunately he said it wasn't for sale! It was good to see it at lead east and in good hands.
No worries Rich. The story is a quite confusing if you look at the numbers/dates. funny about the kid following. I didn't notice anything unusual, as I was behind the flatbed door-to-door. I was rather surprised at the attention it got at Lead-East; what with all the similar cars there in *excellent* condition. Guess it just shows that *all* these cars are special. Yes, Bill and Frank (a**** others) gave her love that she deserves. It felt completely natural having Bill cruise us in (my wife and kids had never seen her in person before, never mind riding). It is rather surreal to be able to open the door and see her sitting there in the garage. Jim J
Yup. right time-frame, right geography. 4 weeks ago this past wednesday. Interesting how the internet seems so big, yet the world so small. Jim J
